Advertising tells you about a country. Do you agree or disagree? Why?

When the question of the advantages of advertising is brought into view, public opinions vary. Some
people say that advertising does not bring about any benefit because everything in the advertisement is
exaggerated and not true. However, other people, myself included, believe that advertisements assist
people in understanding a country.
First and foremost, advertisements are beneficial for viewers to explore the traditions and customs of a
country. It is undeniable that in many advertisements, traditions and customs are described as a special
feature of a country. For example, I first learned the traditional costume of Korea is a dress, called
Hanbok when I watched the advertisement for Samsung cellphones. I also know how the kimono
costumes of Japanese look like through Japanese advertisements. By watching these advertisements I can
understand that kimonos are worn only during the holidays by Japanese. By and large, advertisements are
of great help to me in learning the traditions and customs of a country.
Secondly, the benefits of advertisements also hold more weight because advertisements allow viewers to
discover famous and attractive places in a country. It is apparent that advertisements are often filmed in
attractive places to appeal to viewers. Thus, viewers are bound to have a better understanding of a country
through these beautiful places. I find myself an excellent example of this. I myself, have never discovered
the beauty of China but I know the Great Wall of China is one the greatest artefacts. This is because the
Great Wall appears very much in Chinese advertisements. Therefore, watching advertisements brings
remarkable benefits for people to learn about a country.
Last but not least, advertisements prove to be useful to people to get economic information of a country
when their products are concerned. For instance, most advertisements in Japan I have watched are about
technology products such as Toyota cars, Sony cellphones, and so on. Clearly, these advertisements tell
me that technology field of Japan is highly developed. Without a doubt, the economy of a country is
reflected briefly by the country’s advertisement. This is one of the reasons why advertisements tell people
about a country.
In conclusion, I find myself definitely agree with those who assert that advertising offers viewers a
chance to understand more about its country. This is because of traditions and customs; commas famous
places; and advertisements’ products. Therefore, it is important that people take these into careful
consideration so that we can regard watching advertisements as learning about a country.
