English Communication for

Informatics Support Technicians


Description

English Communication Course starts on Sunday, December 6th, 2020 (at 8:30 AM.)

The last session of classes for this course is planned to be on Sunday, March 28th, 2020.

The Final Exam (Multiple Choice Questions).

If there is any retake exam, its date will be furtherly noticed.

This course covers beginning and intermediate levels of listening, speaking, and reading English,
including grammar and vocabulary for the students majoring in Informatics Support.

The Emphasis in this course is basically on the improvement of the students' basic knowledge of English
Grammar and their listening and speaking skills.

Objectives

This course is designed to help students develop their beginning /intermediate English language skills so
that they can begin experimenting with speaking, reading, writing, and listening.

English Communication Course Objectives:

1. Participate in most routine social conversations and talk about needs and familiar topics of
personal relevance.
2. Understand simple exchanges, common daily/ professional instructions, direct questions about
computers.
3. Understand the purpose, main ideas, and some detail in some authentic 2-3 paragraph texts.
4. Effectively convey an opinion, feeling, or experience in a simple paragraph.
5. Use and understand a range of common everyday vocabulary plus some computer professional
words.
6. Use a variety of simple structures and some complex ones when speaking.
7. Participante with some effort in routine social/ Professional conversations.
8. Talk with confidence about needs and familiar topics of computer support.
9. Show relatively fluent and connected speech.
10. Follow very broadly the gist of oral communication between native speakers in more demanding
contexts (e.g. phone calls, formal conversations, etc.)
Topics
The Course starts with a general evaluation of the class's English knowledge. It is continued by two sessions of
basic grammatical points for all. Then the focus of the course becomes working on the Professional topics
of Computer Support major (hardware) and the basic verb tenses. The course is finished by English CV
building and Job Interview Preparation lessons if students are interested.

Assessment
Scoring weights are as follows:
1) Final Test (Basic Grammar/ Vocabulary + Computer related topics; Grammar, Listening, and
Vocabulary from Infotech): 60%
2) Oral Test (A mock job interview): 20%
3) Presentation Project (On a topic assigned by the teacher): 20%

* Bonus: Only for Early Comers and Always Attending Students (with maximum One session of
Absence): +10% / +20%
