Choose the correct answer a, b, c or d.
In most European countries pets are considered to be part of families. Parents would sooner keep
pets in their houses than buy their children toys preventing them from thinking of forming independent
personalities. Psychologists also suggest that children should have pets so that they can learn how to share.
When compared with other children, a child who has a pet is more affectionate and helpful. However, some
parents are not in favour of keeping pets in their houses due to the problems that animals may cause. I think
parents who are against having pets should determine whether their comfort or their children’s preferences
makes their sons or daughters happier.

1. We learn from this text that:

a. pets are good because they help people to think and learn;
b. pets are beneficial to children’s harmonious development;
c. pets are members of families in all European countries;

2. Parents are reticent to keeping pets in their houses because:

a. they cannot live in a house;
b. they may cause different problems in their houses;
c. they determine special preferences;
d. they need special comfort.
