 Interpretation of a TVC

Following are the interpretations of the screenshots of the TVC

1. A traditional family is sitting on the dining table for

dinner.

2. There is a child who seems to be upset and not

eating the food.

3. Women are serving food to the child and trying to cheer

him up and make him eat the food.

4. Women are serving food to the whole family and

not eating themselves as this describes a stereotype
that women should feed the whole family first and
then they are allowed to have their meal.

5. This screenshot is showing that the grandmother is

sitting on the dining table and not eating the food. She
looks extremely angry with someone over there may
be because she did not like the taste of the food, or
something unpleasant happened there.

6. This shows a woman standing beside the table and not

allowed to eat the food with the family members. She
can only serve the food.
 7. This shows that one woman is passing the jam bottle,
here it can be perceived that this may be the ad of a jam.

8. This shows that the grandfather is trying to teach something to all the family members
sitting there.

9. The mother is worried about the mosquitoes, she brought a mosquito killer machine.
After using this machine, she feels safe, may be this is an ad of mosquito killers.

10. The mother is helping her child do the homework.

Interpretation of all the pictures:

May be this ad is about a Shan masala. As we can see that all the family members are sitting on a
dining table and eating their meal but the younger boy of the family doesn’t want to eat the meal
because he might want something else such as a burger or pizza etc. And due to this behaviour,
all of his family members are angry on him and insist him to eat this food. After eating a meal
his mood and perception about the food has been changed because her mother added Shan
masala in the meal. This masala completely changed the taste of the food.

TVC Description:

The ad begins when the dinner is being served by women of the family and the whole family is
eating the food. While the youngest child of the family is upset and is denying to eat the food his
mother served him. The mother takes away his plate and elder women begin criticizing her over
her scolding the child due to him stealing Rs. 10 from his mother. Then the eldest member of the
family, the grandfather shuts them up by supporting his daughter in law, who wants to teach her
son a lesson. This is the ad all about, one should stand by a tough mom as it helps protect the
next generation.

Difference between the perceived and actual meaning of the TVC:

The actual ad and perceived ad depending on the screenshots taken during

that ad shows that the seemed to be a different ad
