CONCLUSION

Based on the result obtained in this assignment, the Chi-squared statistics obtained through the test with
parameter 2, 4 and 2.2 is 2.4745, 87.54 and 2.7823 respectively. The critical value of the three test with
parameter 2, 4 and 2.2 is 9.488, 9.488 and 7.815 at 5% level of significant respectively while at 1% level
of significant, their critical value is 13.28, 13.28 and 11.34 respectively.

At 5% level of significant, the dataset is fits to the Poisson distribution with parameter 2 and 2.2 since
both of their Chi-squared statistic is smaller than their critical value. Therefore, there is no enough
evidence to reject the null hypothesis and hence accept the null hypothesis. At the same level of
significant, Poisson distribution with parameter 4 is not a suitable model for the dataset due to its Chi-
squared statistic is much larger than its critical value. Therefore, there is enough evidence to reject the
null hypothesis and hence accept the alternative hypothesis. Thus, at 5% level of significant, the dataset
is fits to the Poisson distribution with parameter 2 and 4 but does not fits to the Poisson distribution with
parameter 4.

Similarity, at 1% level of significant, the dataset is also fits to the Poisson distribution with parameter 2
and 2.2. This is due to both of their Chi-squared statistic is smaller than their test critical value.
Therefore, there is no enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis and hence accept the null
hypothesis. At the same level of significant, the dataset is not fits to the Poisson distribution with
parameter 4 since the Chi-squared statistic is too much larger than its test critical value. Therefore, there
is enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis and hence accept the alternative hypothesis. Thus, at 1%
level of significant, only the Poisson distribution with parameter 4 is not a suitable mode for the dataset
whereas the Poisson distribution with parameter 2 ad 2.2 are the suitable model for the dataset in this
assignment.

Based on the result, it can be concluded that the dataset in this assignment is fits to the Poisson
distribution with parameter 2 and 2.2 at 5% and 1% level of significant but does not fits to the Poisson
distribution with parameter 4. Overall, in this assignment, the dataset is best fits to the Poisson
distribution with parameter or mean 2 since it has the smallest test value or Chi-squared statistic among
all the test value. As conclusion, principal’s claim is true, the attendance of students in the school per day
is unsatisfactory.
