Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

BY  RO BE RT FR OS T
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer

To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake

To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Robert Frost, which is the greatest poet in America. Stopping by wood on a snowy
evening is one of his wonderful poems. From the first paragraph, as we can see Robert like stuck
in the woods alone. I can imagine the coolest, the creepier, and the loneliness from that situation
was extraordinary. Maybe at that time human population not too much than nowadays in
America. Then when the wintertime has come, people prefer to stay at home and gathered with
family to get warm.

Next in paragraph 2 of the poem, Robert says “ The darkest evening of the year.”
Behold, he amazed by nature. When I read the short biography of Robert Frost. I realize he had
lived in New England. There are covered by 4 seasons. And I think Rebert is in ride-along. A
horse is the best appliance in winter. Because of flexibility and power. They want to take a rest,
but there isn’t a farmhouse to stopover.

He gives his harness bells a shake

To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

In This paragraph, I think he’s the only person in the woods. When in the evening, you
are in the woods and then snow down to the ground. Everything is gonna cold and colder. I
mean, if I have a company on my trip and also have a similar situation like that. Maybe the
atmosphere became more live than alone. The only one sound just comes from the wind. Creepy
for me.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
But not for Robert, he felt the woods is a sacred place. The dark and creepy ambiance
emitted by woods is natural. He must stay awake and continued his journey through the snowy
evening. It’s a hard trip and only a tough guy can through it.
