Garments Manufacturing
is an assembly oriented
activity with a great range
of raw material, products
types, production volume,
supply chains and
associative technologies.

Definition
“Any object which can be used to wear is termed as
garment / apparel / clothing” (e.g. pants, shirt and
sweater, etc.)
Another definition is “The 3-dimensional shape of
cloth which is used to cover the body”.
Difference between Garments and Apparel 4

Garments are a part of


apparel, whereas apparel
is a broad terminology.
For instance, shoes and
hats are also included in
apparel.

• During the last decade, the apparel industry is shifting


towards Asia.
• According to World Trade Organization, China, Hong Kong,
Bangladesh, India and Turkey are the biggest clothing
exporters in the world.
• Pakistan is the 11th biggest clothing exporter in the world.
• Clothing exports of Bangladesh are four times higher than
the clothing exports of Pakistan.

Over a period of time, Apparel Industry


experienced dramatic growth and new
technologies provided manufacturers with the
ability to respond quickly to change.

The position, responsibilities and authority of the


apparel merchandiser evolved as apparel
companies made the transition from the
traditional focus on production efficiency to
more focus on changing consumer needs.

This evolution took place over 40 years and


involved five distinct structural changes in the
typical apparel organization.
