1. Easter Borserup, Swedish Research and Development Economist argues contrary to Malthusian
population theory, according to which increased population growth and increased population
density acts as dynamic and trigger for economic development. Discuss the main theoretical
formulation of the theory in the context of Third World economic development.

2. In Development Economics literature, the development of agricultural and industrial sector is


considered Zeo-Sum (the gain of one is loss of other).

Discuss the relationship of agriculture in the light of two different theories forwarded by
two prominent economist, Simon Kuznets and T. W. Schultz’s theory of Peasant
Rationality”

3. What is poverty? How it is measured in the light of Multi Poverty Index (MPI) and suggest
measures to minimize it, with some examples from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

4. Globalization driven by market capitalism presented as solution to all the economic problems of
developing countries. Discuss the nexus between globalization and economic development and
discuss the economic processes that promote growth and development, with especial reference
to developing countries.
