I would like to be considered for the South Lyon High School English position. I have
been an Oakland County resident for almost all of my life, and I feel very proud of our schools and
our community; I would like to help preserve the excellence of our school districts. As a graduate
of the Michigan State University Teacher Program, I hold a Michigan Teacher Certification in the
secondary areas of English (BA) and Journalism (BC). I believe my education, experiences, and
passion for teaching have prepared me to be a successful educator over the last six years at Berkley
High School as an English and journalism teacher.
I feel very confident in my teaching abilities, and I believe I can reach a wide variety of
students both in terms of socioeconomics and regarding a student’s English level. In addition, just
as you see every one of your students as an individual, I too acknowledge that students have
different abilities, learning styles, and needs. With this in mind I have successfully developed lesson
plans and implemented differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all of my students in my
English and Journalism courses. Throughout the years, I have truly come to discover my love for
teaching young adults.

An objective of your district is high academic achievement for your students as well as
never leaving any child behind. This should be a fundamental goal of any teacher. I feel confident
in my abilities to challenge, motivate, and hold high expectations for each and every one of my
students. My hope is for my students to become successful, lifelong learners (as well as lovers of
literature and writing).

Fellow teachers, professors, and administrators would say that I am self-sufficient,

dedicated, and that I work well with others. I bring energy, creativity, consistency, and
professionalism to the school and the classroom. My goal is to obtain a teaching position at South
Lyon High School.
