Homework and Language Summary

What we learned:

VOCABULARY:

- Contacting people: (get hold of sb, let sb know sth, be in touch with sb…)

- Describing people: (dyed hair, shoulder-length hair, straight hair…)

- Phrasal verbs: (get out of sth, get over sth, go up, look sth up…)

GRAMMAR:

- was/were going to, was/were supposed to

*We were going to visit the Bradleys later that year, but we didn’t go for some reason.

(They planned to visit the Bradleys, but they didn’t.)

*Tom was supposed to book the cottage months ago, but he forgot.

(Tom agreed to book the cottage, but he didn’t book it.)

- Modal verbs: making deductions

deductions about states deductions about something happening now

modal verb + infinitive modal verb + be + Ving

*We use must to talk about something that we believe is true:

He must be talking to some guests in the other room.

*We use could, may or might to talk about something that we think is possibly true:

He could be picking people up from the station.


He might be in the bathroom.

He may want to be on his own for a bit.

*We use can’t to talk about something that we believe isn’t true.

That can’t be her real hair colour.
