Direct Instruction: I will be doing most of the talking in this lesson because it
I do introduces our writing project. I will show students the list of
Explorers they can choose from. We have already studied these
Explorers in previous weeks so they have knowledge that is
necessary for our writing assignment.
Guided Practice: Together, we will pick our Explorers and discuss and address
We do any concerns about the project’s research aspect. We will also
look at different resources together, so students know exactly
where to go when they research at home.
Independent Practice: Students will research their Explorers independently at home and
You do in class for the next few days. As they conduct their research,
they will save the links to their resources to revisit them and put
them in the bibliography at the end of their paper. Students will
also begin their Plot Planner A and B, asking for information
about the Native tribes and Explorer.
Core Lesson Plan
Closure: At the end of the lesson, I will ask the students if they all know
who their Explorer is and if they have found one book or website
that has information that they can use for their Plot Planner A
and B.
