My Teaching Philosophy Statement

As far back as I can remember, I have always loved to learn. I loved to

learn in the classroom, I loved to learn in sports, I loved learning how to play

the drums- I just loved to learn new things. Since I have always thoroughly

enjoyed learning, I believe that will manifest itself into a love of teaching; and,

after being submerged inside of a school for my student-teaching experience,

that has already begun to be proven true. It is imperative that for learning to

occur, however, there must be someone to guide and lead the learners

(students). Students need their teacher to be a positive role model that they

can look to for guidance, for direction, for advice, for feedback, etc. It is the

responsibility of the teacher to hold the students’ best-interests at hand and do

everything in their will to help the students achieve success; further, I believe

that teaching ultimately boils down to putting the needs of the students first

before all other things.

During my time in the United States Army, I learned about what is called

selfless service, one of the Army core values. What it essentially means is to

put the needs of others before your own. It reflects leadership in that it places

an emphasis on making sure subordinates are taken care of first before one’s

own needs are met; moreover, I feel that what I have learned during my time in

the military and during my schooling at Kennesaw State University have

equipped me with more than enough capabilities to be able to be an effective

teacher/educator/leader.
