The project I am going to present is an intermodal


transport node that aims to reduce car traffic in
Bucharest by encouraging public transport.

The fundamental concept of the project is to create a


space between the city and the periphery, to collect the
people who live in peripheral area and use individual
transport and direct them to public transport, project is
also a gateway of the city, a way of communication with
the immediate neighborhoods but also with the
territory.

The proposed location for this project is in the south of


the capital, in a continuously developing area, which
benefits from a good transport network due to the
former industrial platforms, transport is the main
engine of local development but it miss an integrated
character.

The area is also an intersection of the territorial


administrative areas, which is currently a weak point,
but which has the potential to become a strong point of
this area.

As previously mentioned, transport is the main engine


of development of the area, an element that is also
used by the local administration to reduce the negative
effects due to car pollution, which is observed in the
growth of public transport networks in the peripheral
area.

The rail transport is the main mode of public transport


within the city, especially the north-south axis, this as a
number of passengers transported daily, but also the
main way to travel together between regions, so its
presence in the project is very important.

Instead, the most used mode of transport remains on
the road, which is also in continuous development, and
a new highway will appear near the site, which will
represent a connection between the two most
important highways, that conect the east and the west
of the country.

CONCLUSIONS

The chosen location has a good positioning in relation


with the transport networks, the area being one in
continuous development and the proposed project
represents a development direction for it.

The site is located on one of the former existing


industrial platforms in the area with a free surface
suitable for this type of proposal. The connection of the
project with transport network is direct in most of the
cases, the railway network being already present on the
site.

The most important level of the building is the ground


floor which supports all means of transport except the
subway which is underground but which makes its
presence felt by the covering which comes out of the
ground.

Depending on the relationship of the site with the


transport networks, i placed the spaces allocated to the
distinct types of transport (subway bus train…) which
were put together by a unitary roof.

The presence of a single roof to create a unitary space


determines the presence of a large central space that
acquires a commercial role.

At the same time, inside this space, a series of routes is


created between the transport areas.
The general spaces of the proposal are distinguished as
three depending on the activities carried out in them
(offices, parking lots, public transport space).

The roof created with the intention of an unitary space


is subject to a transformation based on attractors to
create a dynamic space and adapted to each function
present under it and in accordance with the pedestrian
paths inside the building.

Starting from the attractors, I modified the surface in


the vertical direction, resulting in a dynamic surface
adapted to the functions below it, but which does not
have a structural support, a large structural opening and
opaque surface . That is why the structural supports
were made in the form of gaps in this surface that goes
down to ground level, gaps that were placed and scaled
so as not to confuse the previously determined routes.

Due to the openings that this surface has the only viable
type of structure is the 3d one that involves a volume
allocated to this structure, for this i have created a
second surface easier to execute located to the outside
and its simple shape facilitates a faster construction and
a better strength at climatic conditions.

The structural gaps were taken over by the new surface


and the joint between them will be fluidized similarly to
the case of the first surface.

Following the construction of the space based on the


attractors, the horizontal surfaces for parking lots and
offices had to be defined to create the levels present
under this cover, so i made a series of parallel
horizontal plans at a distance of 5 m except for the
ground floor level which has a double height. which I
intersected with the surface of the coverage lowered
with a level. From this resulting the shape of the floors,
but resulting in 2 types some inside of the structure
volume that could not be preserved, this space being
allocated to the 3d structure and those below this
structure, which gave shape to the levels.

The covering structure is made of 5 main layers, 2 o


them being for closing and the other 3 being structural,
the structural layers being also of 2 types: main which
are formed by beams arranged at equal distances on
two perpendicular directions and tie rods between
nodes and the connection layer that makes these two
layers to work together.

As i mentioned previously, in the proposal are 3


differentiated(diferenșieited) types of major spaces, in
order to create an individual character of them, I create
two filtering areas, green areas, these being accessible
by the neighboring entities, behaving like a buffer
space.

The commercial space being located under this special


structure could not be a typical one, that's why i created
this boxes to furnish this space and whose number can
vary in time with the evolution of the project.

These are of three types depending on the size and can


vary in opening to the space around them.

The structure being the main element of the project,i


also proposed a solution for the way of joining the
beams in the field. Node that implies the presence of
two hinges, one of them being with two pivoting axes,
which allows the realization of the structure at ground
level and its raising to the final level and will be fixed
definitively.

This is the technical solution proposed for closing the


facade in the office area, being a typical closure for a
metal structure, a closure with knauf fiber cement
panels and a ventilated facade system.

These are the plan and detail section in which is showed


one of the waiting rooms, rooms that are located
scattered in the project but near the platforms.
