The West Yorkshire Guide to Cross
Boundary Bus & Train Services
Bus and train journeys often cross
boundaries into North, South and East
Yorkshire as well as Greater Manchester or
Lancashire. So, it is important, when using
buses and trains that you understand the
conditions which apply to West Yorkshire
tickets so you can travel with ease
wherever your journey takes you.
MCards, MetroDay, West Yorkshire
DayRovers and concessions for Under 16s
and 16-18 year-olds, are valid for travel
only within West Yorkshire and cannot be
used on special event services.
However, MCards are valid on MetroConnect
summer services from West Yorkshire to
the Yorkshire Dales.
Cross boundary travel by bus
Senior and Disabled English National
Concessionary Pass holders benefit from free
national bus travel throughout England and
local travel within West Yorkshire, between
0930 and 2300 Mon – Fri and all day at
weekends and public holidays. These Passes
cannot be used on special event services.
In addition, Metro Blind English National
Concessionary Pass holders, within West
Yorkshire benefit from free travel in West
Yorkshire at any time. This does not apply
in other areas.
Blind and Disabled companion passes,
also entitle a companion to the same
travel concession as the holder for
journeys that start or finish within West
Yorkshire only.
On journeys wholly outside of West
Yorkshire, the companion will be required
to pay the full fare.
MCards, MetroDay, West Yorkshire DayRovers
and concessions for under 16 and 16 - 18
year-olds only allow travel in West Yorkshire.
Cross boundary travel by train
If you want to travel cross boundary by train,
full fare applies to the part of the journey outside
West Yorkshire (unless you show entitlement to
a reduced fare or a valid ticket for that section).
You must pay the additional fare at the start of
your journey (at the ticket office if your journey
starts at a staffed station) otherwise you will be
charged full adult fare for the entire journey.
Please note fares may be combined only to and
from a station at which your train makes a
scheduled stop.
If you have two or more zonal tickets in
combination or one is a rail season ticket and
one is not, the train does not need to stop at
the station where they change from one ticket
to another.
Please note
You cannot use these combinations of
tickets on services operated by CrossCountry,
East Midlands Trains, Virgin Trains or Virgin
Trains East Coast.
