RANDOM VARIABLE- it is a way to map possible

outcomes and it is a variable whose values are
determine by chance.
KINDS OF RANDOM VARIABLE:
1. DISCRETE RANDOM VARIABLE – if its set of
outcomes is countable.
Example: the number of GAS 2 students .
2. CONTINUOUS RANDOM VARIABLE- if it takes on
values a continuous scale, Often, continuous
random variables represent measured data such
as heights, weights, and temperatures.
Example: the heights of Senior High School
students in Polong NHS.
LEARNING TASK 1
I. Classify the following random variables
as discrete or continuous .
1.The weight of newborns each year in a
hospital.
2. The speed of a car.
3.The number of female in GAS 1.
4.The amount of sugar in a cup of coffee.
5. The ave. amount of electricity consumed
per household per months.
6. The time needed to finish the test.
7.The no. of SHS students who enrolled in
PNHS.
8.The no. of teachers in Polong NHS
II. Give 5 examples for discrete random
variable and for continuous random
variable.
III. Two coins are tossed. Let x be the
random variable representing the number
of heads that occur. Find the values of
the random variable X.
