INTRODUCTION
This dataset contains daily U.S. weather conditions of different states. The observation is
depending upon different factors such as temperature, elevation, wind speed, snow, and
direction of wind.
The dataset has 416,937 observations of 15 variables. The different variables are state,
latitude, longitude, elevation, date, station,
PRCP = Precipitation (inch)
SNOW = Snowfall (inch)
SNWD = Snow depth (inch)
TMAX = Maximum temperature (F)
TMIN = Minimum temperature (F)
TAVG = Average temperature (F)
AWND = Average daily wind speed (miles / hour)
WSF5 = Fastest 5-second wind speed (miles / hour)
WDF5 = Direction of fastest 5-second wind (degrees)

INITIAL ANALYSIS QUESTIONS

1. In what temperature range, precipitation phenomenon can be found
2. Weather forecasting for 4th quarter of 2017
3. Snow fall at different elevations
4. How there is variation in climate in different states of the U.S.?

DISCOVERIES AND INSIGHTS

The analysis starts with plotting graphs with different variables and by obtaining various
insights about it. First we create a dashboard and assess 3 different states elevation and
the climate of that state such as Connecticut, Florida and Alaska, then we assess about the
factors which are involved in providing various output

2
Figure 1. U.S. State Alaska
Here is the dashboard of weather variation across U.S. and the factors involved in it.
There are 3 instances with different elevations. This chart shows about the Alaska and its
maximum and minimum temperature in 3 quartiles. The elevation is 243 meters. The
average wind speed is above 40 in first and third quartile.

3
Figure 2 U.S. State Connecticut
The above dashboard shows weather variation in Connecticut. The elevation is recorded
as 2797 meters and the average wind speed is above 100 miles/hour. The maximum
temperature recorded is 105.1 F in 2nd and 3rd quartile and minimum is -36.8 in 1 st
quartile.

Figure 3 U.S. State Florida

The above diagram shows weather variation in Florida. The elevation recorded as 13.9
meters and the average wind speed is maximum in 3 rd quartile. The minimum and
maximum temperature recorded is 111.9 and -79.8 in 3rd and 2nd quartile respectively.

Out of all the 3 states, According to the dataset the highest elevation recorded is 2797
meters in Connecticut which is a quality issue in the dataset and the temperature is
increasing along with the elevation.

4
Figure 4 Precipitation Density
The above diagram illustrates about the precipitation density which is maximum of 307.1
with the temperature of 34.7 F. The precipitation starts from 0 F and ends in the 80
degree Fahrenheit. The maximum range is between 30F to 40F.

Figure 5 Snow vs Elevation

The above diagram illustrates about the snowfall in different elevations. As the elevation
decreases the snowfall increases. When the elevation is 0 there is maximum snowfall of
67.99.

5
Figure 6 Temperature vs Elevation
This graph illustrates relationship between temperature and elevation, Temp and
elevation are negatively co-related. The temperature considerably decreases as elevation
increases.
The data point with elevation value 491 and temp with -147F is overlooked as outlier,
since it significantly affects correlation calculation.

6
Figure 7 Wind speed vs Average Temperature
The above diagram illustrates about the relationship between the wind speed and average
temperature. As the wind speed increases the temperature decreases. Wind speed and
temperature are negatively co-related.

Figure 8 Snowfall vs Wind Speed

The above diagram illustrates about the relationship between the wind speed and
snowfall.
The data point with average wind speed 8.5 and snowfall with 67.99 is overlooked as
outlier, since it significantly affects correlation calculation.

7
Figure 9 State-wise wind speed
The above diagram shows the decreasing order of wind speed of different states in the
United States. It also shows the elevation along with the wind speed

Figure 10 Wind Speed vs Precipitation

The above diagram illustrates about the relationship between the wind speed and
precipitation. The precipitation is of 26.03 is recorded when average wind speed is 22.13.
Both the wind speed and precipitation are negatively co-related.

8
Figure 11 State wise snow fall
The above diagram shows the snowfall of different states at different eleavtion points.
The dark colour shows the maximum snowfall in the particular state which is located in
the x-axis. As the elevation increases the snowfall decreases as mentioned in Figure 5.

Figure 12 Forecasting
The above pictorial representation shows the snowfall forecast in different quartiles of the
year 2017. The 1st three quartiles have been recorded and the 4th quartile has been
predicted with least of -0.10 and maximum of 0.10 and with a average of 0.0027. It
shows that there is a slight increase in the snowfall while compared to 2nd and 3rd quartile.

SUMMARY
Here we saw about the various insights such as latitude, longitude, wind, weather, rain
and other factors on the different states of U.S. Some of the factors are negatively
corelated and there are outliers such as in temperature, which can give wrong calculations
in the dataset.
