Submission Date: Saturday of Week 17 until 11:59 PM
Duration of Activity: 5 weeks
Project Background:
The project is a one-storey development with a viewing deck located near a Mangrove Eco-Park in Hinoba-an,
Negros Occidental. The development will be divided into two zones which are the wildlife conservation center and
the mangrove eco-park aside from support facilities needed for the project. Currently, the site is located along the
National Highway and has direct access to the Mangrove Eco-Park.

The project has the following development goals:

1. Provide facilities for conservation education and a rescue/ recovery center for endangered wildlife
2. Provide accommodations such as eco-lodges for researchers and training participants as well as a nature trail
that highlight the natural environment especially the Mangrove Eco-Park.
3. Plan and create spaces that have minimal impact and disturbance to the natural environment
4. Create visually appealing structures that highlight the culture and context of the locality

Space Requirements:
The project will have two major zones and support facilities:
• Zone 1:Wildlife Conservation Center
o Library
o Museums
o Audio-Visual Rooms
o Conference and Training Rooms
o Outdoor Deck
o Veterinary Clinic

• Zone 2: Mangrove Eco-Park

o Eco-Lodges
o Mangrove NatureTrail

• Support Facilities
o Administration office
o Lounge Area and Kitchen Facilities

o Medical facilities and Public Toilets
o Security office
o Utility rooms (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing)
o Storages
o Parking Facilities

The Proposed Project Site:

The project site has a total lot area of 14, 663 sqm and is an inside lot. It is bounded by only one road, the National
Highway (approx 20 m RROW) The location of the site have very low density development surrounded with luch
vegetation and had direct access to the Mangrove Eco-park.

Assessment Instruction:

Concept Sheets
• Must explain architectural approaches with corresponding rationale within each concept and consideration,
explaining the reasons of their solutions.
• Site Analysis must show the summer and winter solstices, which will have an implication on their façade
concept and building orientation, as well as site landscaping. Students must also illustrate the potential
sources of noises, pollution, odor, etc.
• Design Considerations must include the existing site conditions observed in their site analysis. Aside from
enumerating factors being considered, students must also provide a brief explanation of each factor with
reasons why they consider these factors in their design.

Site Development Plan

• Students must clearly indicate the elements shown in the project site image (Figure X).
• Students must clearly show the position of the buildings within the site, which should be presented with
corresponding dimensions of setbacks or distances from the property line or another building.
• Buildings may be presented thru massing, as long as the building entry/exit/accesses are shown.

Floor Plans
• Aside from site development plan, floor plans must be separately provided, as it must be presented in a
larger scale than the site development plan.
• Ground Floor Plans must include the exterior elements 2 meters from the face of the exterior wall/façade in
order to show the relationship of the building to the outdoor environment.
• Buildings with the same layout of Floor Plans may be presented in a typical plan in order to lessen the time
consumed in the formulation of drawings instead of drawing the two building plans separately. This must be
properly labelled as Typical Floor Plan of those buildings having the same layout .
• Floor finish/materials must be specified on plan.

Sections
• Vertical dimensions from floor finish level (FFL) to ceiling finish level (CFL) must be indicated, as well as
storey heights measuring from FFL of one level to another.
• Stairs and other means of vertical circulation must be seen in sections, as well as toilets and other important
areas.
• Students may provide more than one cross or longitudinal section if deemed necessary.
• Spaces must be properly labelled within the section.
• Finishes/Materials must be specified within the section

Elevations
• Vertical dimensions of storey height from floor finish level (FFL) of one level to another must be properly
indicated.
• Finishes/Materials used on exterior must be specified within the elvations.

Formative Assessment 6
Support Modules: Module 1, 2 and 3
Assessment Title: Development Controls
Released Date: Week 11 (Mar. 29-Apr. 3, 2020)
Submission Date: Saturday of Week 12 (may vary depends on the Faculty instruction.)
Duration of Activity: 1 week
Assessment Background:
1. Formulate Design Philosophy based on your beliefs or analogies that you may relate to your design
approaches.
2. Create your site analysis showing the “proper sun paths” and other climatic factors, which you have learned
in your Tropical Design course. Site Analysis must show the summer and winter solstices, which will have
an implication on their façade concept and building orientation, as well as site landscaping. Illustrate within
your site analysis the potential sources of noises, pollution, odor, etc.
3. Formulate your design considerations. Design Considerations must include the existing site conditions
observed in their site analysis. Aside from enumerating factors being considered, students must also
provide a brief explanation of each factor with reasons why they consider these factors in their design.
4. Compute for the Development Controls of the proposed project. Kindly refer to your Learning Module and
follow the steps in computing the parameters for development controls.

Formative Assessment 7
Support Modules: Module 1, 2 and 3
Assessment Title: User Analysis in Pre-design Phase
Released Date: Week 11 (Mar. 29-Apr. 3, 2020) except April 1-2, 2020 – Holy Week
Submission Date: Saturday of Week 13 (may vary depends on the Faculty instruction.)
Duration of Activity: 2 weeks
Assessment Background:
User Analysis role in Pre-design Phase
Pre-design is a process of compilation of information that will be the basis for the design phases to develop.
During this point, the main task is to know everything possible about the personality, lifestyle, and needs of our

customers, as well as to decide how much space you need now and are likely to need in the future, and how to
use, organize, and arrange that space. This data is compiled into a document called the Schedule, which
outlines all the project rooms and spaces, their approximate sizes, and any attributes or characteristics that you
are searching for. Observing and recording the current conditions at the building site is the other aspect of the
pre-design process. This typically includes a survey of the land to assess the positions of the property line and/or
measurements of any existing structures. To better understand how the site relates to the local environment,
atmosphere, people, and the regulations that impact the project, we also do background research.
Instruction/Requirements:
Using any drawing paper and any medium for Drawing and presentation (Manual or Digital Presentation):
1. Provide evidence, statistical data and other supporting documents that would help you design your Resort
Development. Use the question/guidelines below in preparing for your Mini Research paper. (see Appendices
for the Mini Research Paper Format)
• Who are your users? How many will your project cater? Describe your users. Ex. Age group, Activities
they are looking for a Resort
• Identify the activities that the other Resort Development offers to the public/users
• Identify the activities you will provide.
• Create a year-round activity for your Resort to make it feasible. June – Kayak competition, explain why
you need these activities and why is it on that specific Month.
• When will be the peak season and the off season?
• How will your Resort adjust for Peak Season and Off season?
• What are the considerations for a resort development?
• How will you plan your resort with consideration to the post pandemic approach?
