However, there must be regulations in play
that maintain public safety.

Homicide Deaths from Firearms in

the U.S. (2018)
According to the CDC, there were "39,740 deaths from

35%
firearms in the U.S. in 2018." Approximately 35% of those
firearm deaths are related to cases of homicide. Thus, many
regulations have been put in place to prevent this number
from going up, such as in-depth background checks.

Suicide Deaths from Firearms in

the U.S. (2018)
In 2018, approximately 61% of firearm deaths were related

61% to suicide, making up around half of the nation's firearm-

related deaths. The remaining 4% of firearm deaths aside
from homicide and suicide may be attributed to authority,
unintentional deaths, public mass shootings, as well as
unknown causes.

Trend in Firearm Death

Rates
As seen in the graph at the left, the death
rates for homicides have gradually
decreased from the mid-1990s, however,
the death rate of suicides has increased
steadily. Some possible causes of these
results may include one's background,
mental health, social standing, and so on.
