Look back at your “Begin by writing” exercise on page 24 if you need to.

2. Use sensory details to describe your word.


Sensory details help us talk about things without using platitudes like love, justice, faith,
regret, etc. Those words don’t mean much to anyone, but talking about them using
sensory details gives you some weird, wacky, and sticky phrases to use.

What does it sound like?

What does it taste like?

3. Pick a gesture or movement to use with your word.


(For instance, you might shout “STOP” and raise
your hand up.)
