The person I interviewed was Becky Pugh from Lee Street Elementary. 2. What is your title? Mrs. Pugh’s title is a Media Specialist, Web Master, and Technology Liaison for Lee Street Elementary. 3. What type of degree is required for your position? The type of degree needed for her position is a Master’s degree in Media Specialist. 4. What are your job responsibilities? Mrs. Pugh’s job responsibilities include keep and maintain all books at Lee Street Elementary. She also has to monitor and keep track of the Destiny system which helps keep track of all Lee Street books. Shelve books in the Media Center. She also helps teachers find reading sources to use in the classrooms that go with a certain subject that they are teaching. With technology responsibilities, she has to do technology once a month with staff members as well as attend a technology meeting for herself so that she is able to train the staff. 5. How are you meeting the needs of faculty and staff during the transition to remote learning this semester? To meet the needs of teachers during remote learning, Mrs. Pugh has been answering emails, phone calls, and text messages to better help faculty and staff. She finds information to help teachers with teaching effectively online. If a teacher comes to help to ask about a certain topic, Mrs. Pugh goes online to find different resources for that teacher and sends the information through an email. 6. How are you meeting the remote learning needs of students and parents? To meet the needs of students and parents during remote learning, Mrs. Pugh does not have any issues with helping parents who are having issues with technology. Mrs. Pugh stated that most of her assistance has gone to the young grades because they are new to using computers by themselves at home and having issues with turning in assignments. She has created Google Classrooms for each classroom so that the students are able to access any materials they may need for class or to know for the Media Center. 7. What are typical daily activities for your job? Mrs. Pugh’s daily activities include pulling stories for the students to read as well as find a visual video the students can watch to go along with the book. She tries to make sure the stories she picks are on the students’ level so that they can comprehend what is being told. 8. Do you have a budget that you control? How do you make decisions on selecting resources for your stakeholders? Mrs. Pugh does control a budget for the Media Center and promised to see me a copy so I could view it at a later date. She informed me that Lee Street was blessed to get a $10,000 Title1 money and she was able to turn $10,000 into $15,000 because one of the eBook vendors did a buy one get one free plus our regular budget. She also stated this was our first time receiving a Title 1 budget. Her decisions on selecting resources for stakeholders come from her looking at the standards, seeing what resources Lee Street has and doesn’t have, and she keeps a log at her desk that has students and teacher requests. 9. Have you had an opportunity to impact technology implementation throughout your school? Would you describe a specific example? Mrs. Pugh has many opportunities to impact technology throughout the school year. She even joked that technology was her middle name. She stated that Lee Street Elementary’ s Media Center is the hub for technology. She gave an example of if we were to go to the school, we would see all the laptops from distribution from the beginning of the school year is in the Media Center. She gave another example of if we were in the building and a teacher stated they were having internet issues she tries to figure out the program before having to put in a technology ticket. 10. Does your school have a technology committee? Lee Street has a Media Center/Technology committee. 11. How are technology decisions made? Technology decisions are made through the Clayton County Public School district. She stated if she wanted to purchase resources she would have to do the paperwork to the county and they are the ones to say if she is able to get the resource or not. 12. What is the best part of your job? The best part of Mrs. Pugh’s job is the students. She loves to see their faces when they hear a funny part of a story and seeing that they enjoy a certain book. She said she misses seeing the children every day in the building. 13. What do you find to be the most challenging part of your job? Some challenges Mrs. Pugh faces is she is not able to physically put her hands on the computers if students are having trouble at home. She states it is harder to see what they are doing wrong if you aren’t face to face with them. She said she also has a challenge with placing the books back on the shelves because it is a never-ending process. Also ordering books is an issue because she never knows what books we have and need. 14. Due to COVID what is one of your fears when we go back to the school building? Mrs. Pugh stated she had no fears when we returned back to school, but the students would not be able to go to the Media Center she would have to go class to class for Media Center times.
