1. Name of technology coordinator being interviewed.
The person interviewed was Carla Neloms. She works for Jonesboro High School in Clayton County. 2. What is your title? Mrs. Neloms is the Media Specialist at Jonesboro High School in Clayton County. 3. What type of degree is required for your position? The degree Mrs. Neloms holds for the position is a master’s in Instructional Technology. She added on the Media Specialist to her degree from West Georgia. 4. What are your job responsibilities? For the virtual setting, Mrs. Neloms focuses on is the orientation for new students. So she gets the students set up with their Chromebooks, logging into their RapidIdentity and getting into their Google Classrooms. In the building, she helps the students with print and non-print resources. She also finds resources for teachers to use in their classrooms. She will also troubleshoot if students or teachers are having issues with their computers or accounts. She tries to figure out the issues herself but putting in a technology ticket. 5. How are you meeting the needs of faculty and staff during the transition to remote learning this semester? To meet the needs of her faculty and staff, she collaborates with the teachers to help them with resources to use in the classroom. She will also go into teachers’ virtual classrooms to teach different lessons and to help the students to understand digital citizenship. She will also help teachers with different sites to better their lessons or if they have questions about the sites we use in the county. She tries to help teachers with any technical issues they might have at home such as logging in or even understanding how to connect to their home computers. 6. How are you meeting the remote learning needs of students and parents? Mrs. Neloms is meeting the needs of her students and parents by setting up with their Chromebooks, logging into their RapidIdentity, and getting into their Google Classrooms. She helps parents if they are struggling with getting their students logged in. She will answer any questions by phone or by email. She will also troubleshoot if students or teachers are having issues with their computers or accounts. 7. What are typical daily activities for your job? The first thing she does is troubleshoot any problems that the students or staff may have. She will answer any questions that the parents may have and email the teachers to give them a heads up. She will also look at any eBooks to purchase or use for her students to keep them busy and reading. 8. Do you have a budget that you control? How do you make decisions on selecting resources for your stakeholders? The budget is given to the Media Specialists by the county. To select resources, Mrs. Neloms and her paraprofessional go through their books and eBooks to see what they have available and what they may order. She makes sure that all their resources are up to date rather than older. She will also send Google Forms out to the students and staff on things they want to see in the Media Center. 9. Have you had an opportunity to impact technology implementation throughout your school? Would you describe a specific example? She believes that she impacts technology in her school. She tries to show her students and teachers the use of online resources to help them in the classroom. 10. Does your school have a technology committee? Mrs. Neloms’ does have a technology committee that includes her assistant principal and three teachers (Social Studies, Math and English Language Art), the Student Engagement Teacher, and her paraprofessional. 11. How are technology decisions made? The technology decisions are made by the county. The county decides so that all schools have the technology in the buildings. 12. What is the best part of your job? The best part of Mrs. Neloms job is to help people every day. She loves that she is able to make a difference and have an impact. 13. What do you find to be the most challenging part of your job? The most challenging part of her job is getting her high school students to enjoy reading and checking out books. 14. How many years have you been a media specialist? Mrs. Neloms has been a media specialist for five years. 15. When we return back to school how will the Media Center look different? When returning back to the building, Mrs. Neloms is receiving a remodel Media Center. She won’t be able to host a whole class in the Media Center, so she will have to find an area of books and resources for students and teachers to go to collect the items that they need. She said she would feel like an Amazon driver since she will have to deliver materials for classrooms rather than the students to be able to come to the Media Center. 16. How is the participation of high school students in the Media Center? To get high school participation, the students are able to hear guest authors and guest speakers. There are three classes that have autism and they are able to participate by listening to audio books.
