Hey Everyone, Welcome back to The 3D Printer Blog!!

In today’s blog post I am going to be talking about the future of 3D printing

When 3D printers were first created they weren’t used commonly, Fortunately thanks to the
power of todays technology 3d printers are more accessible to the common person being sold
on websites such as Amazon.

According to research done by [ www.grandreviewresearch.com ,2020] the 3D printer market

size was valued at $11.58 billion globally in 2019 and they expect it to expand up to 14%
from 2020-2027.This is huge growth for the 3D printer market in comparison to its previous
years , according to this CNET article from 2002 it took the industry from 1977 to 2002 to
sell one billion units [, www.cnet.com, 2009}.

Big industries such as the medical, education and aerospace industry using 3D Printers, has
validated the positive usage of 3D printers in the workplace and has influenced other large
companies to invest in 3D printers. An example of a large company that is now using 3D
printers is ‘Volkswagen Group’ this includes brands like Lamborghini and Porsche. In an
article on [ www.volkswagen.com ] the company expresses their ‘thanks to modular,
expandable structure of the 3D printer, many manual steps in work processes can be
eliminated’ the article goes on to talk about how they benefit and use 3D printers within their
company ( I will link the article below for anyone who wants to read it 😊 ). These industries
and large companies have increased the creditability and customer base for the 3D printing
market.

The 3D printer industry is constantly evolving and is now beginning to be recognized by

some of the worlds most famous leaders , as stated in ‘Smithsonian Magazine’ in one of
Barack Obamas State of The Union address’s he claims that 3D printing ‘has the potential to
revolutionize the way we make almost anything’ [ www.smithsonianmag.com , 2013]. The
Future of 3D printing is bright and an article on Forbes discusses its ideas on how 3D printing
will be used in the future. Some examples they gave were the lower production costs that 3D
printing offers companies, the fraud prevention that 3D printers will have the ability to
provide, the potential of 3D printers being able to produce metal based products and the
impact 3D printing will have on the medical industry. [ www.forbes.com , 2020 ] . Seeing as
we are in currently in the middle of a global pandemic, I have no doubt that the main usage of
3D printers in the near future will revolve around the pandemic. RTE news released an article
discussing this where public libraries across Ireland were lending their 3D printers to make
masks for front line workers, [ www.rte.ie ,2020]
