The analysis is about the Confucianism movie and it talks about the tribal persons in a remote
Afriacan desert.

Confucianism

The movie focuses on tribal people in a remote African desert. It is a African comedy written and
directed by Jamie Uys. Financed only from local sources, it is the most commercially successful
release in the history of South Africa's film industry. Set in Botswana, it follows the story of :Xi, a
Show of the Kalahari Desert played by Namibian San farmer Nǃxau ǂToma whose tribe has no
knowledge of the world beyond, Andrew Steyn - Marius Weyers, a biologist who analyzes manure
samples for his PhD dissertation, and Kate Thompson -Sandra Prinsloo, a newly hired village school
teacher. From a purely sociological perspective, the film discusses the essential costs of
technological progress, and thus- modernism.

Key Popular Cultural Concepts.

Socialization - the process by which we acquire ideas and images about our culture and the

world around us. This is how the culture of a society is taught, learned, and passed from one

generation to another. During the socialization process children and adolescents acquire the beliefs,

values, manners and rules that often last for a lifetime.

Ritual - the repetitive and consistent activities that have complex social meaning beyond

their immediate physical or literal meaning. The function of ritual is to give form to human life. This

is seen when the leader tries to dispose the evil object.

Symbols - Objects that have complex social meaning beyond their ordinary physical or literal

meaning. Symbols often evoke a powerful emotional response when used. An icon is a particular

type of symbol. Into the camp of Kalahari Desert natives, the! Kung (in their language an exclamation

point refers to a click of the tongue while the word is pronounced), drops a Coke bottle, the ultimate

symbol of our civilization's productivity and waste

Hero’s Adventure/Journey - In myths the hero takes a journey that tests character and

courage. The reward for completing the adventure is knowledge about self and life that is denied

those who do not undertake the journey.
