Appendix A: Post-Design Task Reflection Tools

The post-design task reflection tools shown below were implemented one week after

elementary PSTs’ participation in the following two engineering design tasks within their science

methods course: 1) lifeguard chair; 2) candy bag.


Lifeguard Chair

EDCI 36500- Reflection Questions

The purpose of this reflection is to learn more about how you relate to or identify with the
engineering design process and design tasks. Please complete all questions and make sure you
address each part of each question.

1. Take a moment to reflect on the lifeguard chair design task that you were recently able to
complete during the past two classes. How does this task relate to you personally as a
student? As a future elementary teacher?

2. In your opinion, how did you feel about engaging in the design process? How important
was the engineering design process to being able to complete this task? Please explain
why you feel this way.

3. On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being unconfident and 10 being extremely confident) how
