Introduction
Brief Overview of the Study Plan
Welcome to this comprehensive 12-week study plan tailored specifically for design
aspirants. Over the next three months, you'll be embarking on a meticulously crafted
journey that will touch upon every essential facet of design, from basic principles to
advanced topics. The study plan has been divided into weekly modules, each building
upon the last, ensuring a gradual and solid foundation for your design entrance
preparation.

Purpose & Benefits of Following the Plan

The primary purpose of this study plan is to provide you with a structured and strategic
approach to your design preparation, reducing feelings of overwhelm and ensuring you
cover all necessary topics.

Benefits:
1.Structured Learning: The week-by-week breakdown ensures you maintain a
consistent learning pace, covering all relevant topics without cramming or skipping.
2.Holistic Coverage: This plan doesn't just focus on theory. It integrates study links,
and remarks to help you understand what’s important.
3.Builds Confidence: By sticking to the plan, you'll progressively notice your
confidence building as you get closer to your exam date.
4.Saves Time: Having a pre-defined route map means you don't waste time pondering
what to study next. It's all laid out for you.

Remember, the journey to becoming a skilled designer is as much about the process as
it is about the end result. This study plan is your companion in that journey, guiding
you step-by-step towards your goal.

How to use this document?
The links given in this pdf are for your reference only. Practicing previous year
questions and regular drawing/design practice are necessary. Also, please note that
these topics should be covered in a week.

Exam Specific Preparation

This document contain topics that are asked in all the design entrance exams. To
channelize your preparation for specific exam, try to take out some time solving
questions based on the specific exam you are preparing.

Tools Needed:
• Try creating your small digital or handmade notes to revise these topics later on.
• Practice drawing and design on a drawing book/file. Do not practice on loose sheets.
This will help you track your progress.

Note:
We have not micro-managed the topics i.e. we have not created a day-wise targets so
that you can work on it according to your ease. Also, note that these topics are not
exhaustive, you can add subtopics as per your preparation requirement.

Enjoy the process!

Some questions of the aspirants
The situation is not conducive for me to prepare or concentrate. Am I lagging behind?
The motive of starting the study plan is to help students come out of this negative and stressful
environment created around design exam preparation. We at Kaphal Studio are here for your
preparation.

Should I make notes or jot down something while going through these links?
Well, ideally yes! These are just website links. Please filter the content as you read it. This will help
you gain knowledge.

I am not able to solve UCEED/CEED papers, and I have not joined any coaching. What
should I do?
First of all, nobody needs to join any coaching institute to solve PYQs. Coaching classes are not
needed to crack design exams. Some people have solved previous year CEED/UCEED questions
on YouTube and various platforms. You can even connect with people on our open Telegram
group to get help.

I am not able to get mastery over drawing section. It seems difficult to achieve.
Drawing/sketching is a skill. And it can be acquired only through practice. Please do not expect it
to improve overnight. It will take time and effort. Just keep practicing. You have a lot of time right
now.

Some questions of the aspirants

What should be the minimum number of hours I should spend on reading theory topics?
If you have observed the PYQs, the theory questions have reduced drastically in last couple of
years. But, we are still covering the topics briefly because;
A. Preparing for the unexpected
B. Indian culture topics are important for an Indian Designer.

Having said that, a student should spend majority of time attempting previous year questions
and practicing drawing section. And, only after that, can go for theory topics.
But the number of hours cannot be decided by anyone. This is your discretion.

I am in class 11th and want to start early. Is it a good strategy?

Starting early is of course a good strategy. But maintaining the same vigor and passion for 2
years is a bit difficult task. Yes, a class 11th student can work on his/her handling skills during this
time. Because thinking too much from exam perspective can be exhaustive.

So, starting preparation from class 12th that’s enough to crack the exam.

It is difficult for me to master drawing section in a week. How to achieve that?

Okay! Look at it this way…the aim of the 12 week study plan is to get you accustomed to the
questions and difficulty level of the exam. We are not aiming to make you drawing/sketching
master in these 12 weeks. But, if you wait for your drawing to improve and then go to next topic,
you will miss the essence of the exam. So, what to do in this case?

1. After these intense 12 weeks, you’ll have time before the exam. That is enough to practice and
achieve the required level.
2. At this stage, continue with your practice, do not focus on mastery (it takes time and practice).
But, right now focus on concepts and how questions are asked in the exam? What is the
required level? How much time you’ll have to devote?

Kaphal Studio

Some questions of the aspirants

How to maintain motivation to practice questions and improve sketching?
Well, it is easier said than done. We asked the same question to many students who have gone
through the same process for years. And there was one thing that was common in the answer.
“The daily targets should be achievable”. Making small targets with consistency is better.

When should I start my portfolio preparation?

Right now, one should focus on the entrance exam. If time permits go for some basic books on
design. Explore various streams in design. Ask people from various design streams about their
job profile. This is the time to explore. Post written exam, you’ll get good time to create portfolio
based on your stream.

If you are sure about your stream at this stage, you can work on some concept also.

Shall I quit job for preparing for the design exams? Is it manageable with job?
Design entrance exam is all about testing your creative thinking, presence of mind and some
handling skills. Do not compare this creative test to other exams (govt. job or boards exam).
The fact is, right orientation of mind, some PYQ practice and drawing practice is enough to crack
the exam.

So, quit or not to quit is an individual’s choice. But, we think, your present job has got nothing to
do with the preparation.

If you are reading this after 12 weeks of preparation, congratulations on successfully navigating
through the 12-week study journey. But remember, this isn't the finish line—it's just a milestone.
Now is the time to consolidate your learning. Review topics where you felt challenged, reattempt
assignments, and engage in group discussions to refine your understanding. Consider this plan
as your foundation, and now it's time to build upon it.

Importance of Continuous Practice & Learning

The field of design, like many others, is ever-evolving. What's relevant today might be old news
tomorrow. Hence, the key to staying ahead is continuous practice and learning. The skills you've
cultivated over the past 12 weeks will only remain sharp with consistent practice. It's like muscle
memory; the more you exercise it, the stronger it becomes. Furthermore, always stay curious.
Attend workshops, read the latest design publications, and never hesitate to go back to basics.
Your dedication to continuous growth will not only benefit you in exams but will set you apart in
your future career.

As you move forward, remember that every challenge faced, every obstacle overcome, and every
new thing learned brings you one step closer to your dreams. Believe in yourself, trust the
process, and know that this journey is as unique as you are. Design is not just about creating—it's
about understanding, innovating, and inspiring. And we believe you have all the qualities to do
just that. Here's wishing you all the very best for your upcoming exams and a prosperous career
in design. Remember, the world is but a canvas to your imagination. Paint it bright!
