STUDENT’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I thank you for the opportunity to study which others may not have. Help me to
give my best in whatever I do. Give me the grace to manage my time well, - to balance “study and
play”. Help me set aside distracting thoughts and to have focus especially during exams. Do not let
me fall into temptations of cheating and making “short cuts” in order to attain my goals. Instead, let
me accept the fact of life that nothing is worth comes easy. Let me value the knowledge and wisdom
imparted to us by our teachers and the Oblates of Notre Dame Sisters, and to appreciate their efforts
and concerns. Teach me to learn the lessons of life that I may not only live for myself but for others.
Amen.
That which pleases God, I strive to do always

I. My Story
LIFE-GIVING HANDS
Once, there was a boy who lived in a farm. He liked to tend the
animals which his parents were taking care of. Every day the boy visited
his animal friends beginning from the horses, carabaos, and cows down
to the pigs, chickens, and goats. He would give them food and clean
their pens regularly. After his daily routine, he would go back to their
house and do his other chores. One day as the boy finished feeding the
animals, he thought of going at the back of the barn to check on some
cleaning materials. While he was passing by a bush at the end most
corner of the barn, he saw five chicken eggs. He noticed that the eggs were about to hatch. Slowly the
eggs cracked and ruptured. The boy was startled at what he saw. As one chick pushed and struggled
to get out of the eggshell, the boy began to help the chick. Bit by bit, he chipped and removed the
shell. In a few more seconds, the chick was out of the shell, but the boy noticed something unusual.
The chick began to shiver and wobble until it weakened and died. In his dismay, he just let the other
eggs hatch on their own. The boy held the other eggs and waited until the chicks were able to get out
of their shell in his palms. Gradually, the chicks gained their strength, began to open their eyes, and
little by little stand on their own. The boy was overjoyed by his discovery that his hands were means to
give life to others but there were mysterious ways in helping. He had to let creatures take the natural
course to live. What he had to do was to guide and support them as they began to discover life itself.

III. LINKAGE
As grade 9 student, we may sometimes feel that our capacity to help others is limited. But if we come
to think of it, life is all about believing that you are someone capable of doing good to others. With God's
grace, you can be a life-giving instrument to people who need help, guidance, and inspiration. The Holy
Spirit is our Lord and the Life-Giver; He sustains our existence and gives meaning to our life. The Spirit
brings forth life in every creature on earth and leads each one to life everlasting. As we continue to
deepen our understanding of the lesson, we will stumble on truths about the Holy Spirit as Lord and Giver
of Life to all.
IV. WE BELIEVE (DEEPEN)

A. SHEDDING LIGHT TO THE SCRIPTURES

During the time of Jesus, the Jews hated the Samaritans. In the same manner, talking with a
woman in a public place was prohibited and looked upon with a disapproval in Jewish culture. But
Jesus overcame racial and social injustice. Jesus talked with a Samaritan woman and brings into
account the "living water", which is God's gift to man. The Living Water that Jesus is referring to is the
gift of the Holy Spirit who will be given to the believers once Jesus entered into glory. The scripture
says: "Out of the believer's heart shall flow rivers of living water" (Jn 7:38). Like a desert with water,
although the water does not surface, it is manifested through the verdant vegetation. The same
happens with us when we truly act in accordance with the Holy Spirit. Our actions are better and our
decisions more directed to God because the living water is within us, quenching and filling us. In the
next reading, we find that Jesus told his apostles that He will be asking the Father to give the apostles
another Paraclete. This is a Greek word which means helper. The Helper whom Jesus is referring is the
Holy Spirit who will help the believers sustain their faith. The Holy Spirit will inspire the believers to
continue the works of Jesus. The life He inspires in us is a life that supports, strengthens, and guides,
precisely because it brings us in intimacy with Jesus (cf. CCC 692). The Holy Spirit will enable them to
understand and interpret the words and actions of Jesus so that they will be able to preserve and
spread them to other nations.

B. LORD AND GIVER OF LIFE

The Nicene Creed teaches the believers that the Holy Spirit is the Lord, Giver of Life. This life
that the Holy Spirit together with the Father and the Son shares with us is the divine life of the Blessed
Trinity. Out of God's love and goodness, He created man, saves, and sanctifies him. The Spirit created
us together with the Father and the Son. He breathed on us the divine life and sustains us in existence
from the beginning until the end. The Holy Spirit brings new life to those who believe in Christ. This life
is life eternal that only God can give. As Giver of Life, the Holy Spirit gives us life and empowers the
Church, its sacramental life and resurrection to life everlasting (CFC 1265). As we act and live our lives,
the Spirit of God illuminates our path and guides our ways. He fills our heart with love and inspires us
to follow the ways of Christ. In the same manner as we worship and pray to God, it is the Spirit who
graces us to utter words of praise. It is the Giver of Life who animates each and every member of the
Church and brings forth new hope in the Church and those who believe... For it is only through the
love of God. ...poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given us" (Rom 5:5) that
we can both act morally and worship authentically as true disciples of Christ (CFC 1265). There are
times that we tremendously feel and vividly recognize the works of the Holy Spirit in our life. Whenever
our life is in the right course or when our decisions are in the right direction, it is very easy to thank
the Spirit for gracing us during these occasions. But it's quite difficult when we are in trouble and in
trial. If we encounter such tough situations, always remember that the Spirit is just reminding us of the
trials that Jesus encountered on earth and that the Spirit is guiding us to a better place far beyond our
plans and expectations. God has something more exciting to offer us and we have to wait and be ready
for that special plan. We just have to trust and be faithful to the one who gives us life. And all the
more that we have to be attuned to the Spirit in order for us to fully appreciate His comforting and
consoling presence in times of sufferings and pain. The Lord and Giver of Life is always present to
liberate His people from sin, vivify the soul of each member of the Church, and transform the lives of
each and every person who asks for His help and guidance.
V. WE LIVE
The Holy Spirit has manifested His power all throughout the salvation history, from the creation
of all creatures and up to now in the Church and in the world. Knowing His love for us, how are we
going to show our love for God? Compose a song that will answer the question "How am I going to
show my love to the Lord and Giver of Life?" Write your lyrics inside the box and create an original or
