ACTIVITY

In the first video, it features President Rodrigo Duterte as he was in Da Nang, Vietnam in the event
of the Filipino Community where he was a king speaker of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation or
APEC CEO Summit as he is also an Association of South East Asian Nations or ASEAN Chairman, it
should be Foreign Affair Alan Peter Cayetano but he forgive the wish of the Filipino in Vietnam. There
are 21 leaders of different countries, where ASEAN plays an important role with the APEC that has
constituent from Western Countries. He talks about globalization where he said that globalization
seems like making the world smaller because of the large contact of different countries, where he
express that not all the times beneficial impact are effects of globalization after all small countries
are being outdistance. He also added that we should think about if it is helpful as well in our
homeland so that it won’t leave behind. Moreover a lot of Filipino is working in the other country
where they have hefty economy that can help to sustain the needs of our Filipino family as well as
them also helping the economy of our country. Furthermore, he said such a thing must ensure that
globalization does not lead to worth generation but in inequitable distribution as well. It is necessary
to develop the importance of organization such as APEC and ASEAN succor the small companies. For
him, globalization by itself is the deprivation of some and those of what we call left behind, he add on
such like APEC will only be relevant and prosperity a shared by all. Plus he remark the equivalent of
globalization does not damage poor economies.

In the second video, one easy way to see the effect of globalization on the region is to take a look on
the local economies where it can show how much countries are interacting in one another and in
what ways are being affected by those nations around them and around the world. Knowing the
Gross Domestic Product or GDP and Population of the Southeast Asia countries where the total GDP
of the region is -$5905.93 billion and a population of -634 million while in China’s GDP is $17620
billion and a population of 1,367,485,388 as we can see the GDP is like only a third of China and the
population is only a half. In that we can notice that China immense the control of the area in terms of
population and economic power owing the fact that China excess in labor force which allows them to
produce cheaper goods than much of the rest of the other countries in the extent. Further it displays
the Industries towards it varies from country to country where the effect of globalization in Western
Countries is explicit yet combining the local culture and western influence in increasing the Southeast
Asia due to media sway its essence among media that Southeast Asia countries produce television
shows that similar to western media in theme and style. Southeast Asia is economically lightened by
China where China’s economic power and exertion tells that many of this country do not have same
opportunity as they might have without China’s influence. The population of China provides
agricultural sector on Southeast Asia a market where they can sold their goods externally towards
China’s major industries are their agriculture such as rice, sugarcane, Tropicana fruits, livestock and
fish, also their tourism where Southeast Asia are more attractive than Western Country. Tourism is a
major contributor to introducing ideas to the culture of diverse countries in the Southeast Asia where
it take part in the significant portion of the economy. The economic benefit of tourism means that the
people from Western Countries travel throughout Southeast Asia where they inspire commercial
growth along with cultural exchange. Their major part in the exchange of idea and culture between
East and West is that tourists from the West often seek out certain familiar comforts and so there’s a
need for the local business, hotels, restaurants, and such services to fit those Western taste. They
are changing that this country see themselves so the tourist who go to Southeast Asia and returns to
their country are bringing with them export, history, and heritage that otherwise we wouldn’t had
seen. And the experiences of a different way of life, then cultural exchange goes it ways.

In the third video, it indicates when and what countries started the Southeast Asia which is
composed of 10 states, Association of South East Asian Nations or ASEAN, challenges and solutions
of its region. ASEAN holds an important role regionally and beyond when it comes to major political
and economic growth but it doesn’t live up to this role yet specific actions are missing and are still
waiting for social and ecological justice.

In the year 1967, five countries founded ASEAN which are the Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines,
Malaysia and Singapore where ASEAN aim to improve the economic, political security and socio-
cultural to balance political conflicts of this countries that existed as consequence of the colonization.
Old enemies became partners in 1995, places like Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar join
ASEAN and Brunei collapse in the founding of the world trade organization and financial crisis in Asia
whom it prompted members to deepened their relation and embrace new situations.

Year 2000, free-trade agreements from India, China, South Korea, Austria, New Zealand and Japan,
agreed that in the future the region will turn up into one large free-trade zone.

Year 2001, ASEAN Summit takes place annually, it is a meeting of head of states and government
were current issues are being discuss and given solutions are worked out.

Year 2008, ASEAN charter came into force giving the association the status of a legal person.
Principles of non-intervention and conceptual decision taking remain uncharged by the charter.
Decisions are generally made by conscience no member can be force to something as an outcome
the group really appears to be closed as a political.

Nowadays, ASEAN consist of 3 ASEAN Pillars which are the Political Social which is to enter peace,
Economic for strong domestic market and Socio-Cultural which includes a common identity.

Challenges and solutions are faced by ASEAN, member of social and environmental challenges where
Vietnam and Philippines are vulnerable particular to climate change. As for us where we have rainy
season and dry season that when we get our resources we have exact month on when to harvest
and plant it because of climate change.

Problem Coal Production, be that as it may plan to meet the energy demand by essentially making
the use of damaging coal. Indonesia plan to build 117 Coal Fired Power Plants by 2025. Myanmar
invests in Gigantic Hydro Electric Power Plants and Coal while Laos build stands on the Mekong as
the consequence in the Vietnam loses water in the Mekong Delta. Example of this is the fossil fuel
which are not required to cover the lack of energy, renewable energy sources ranging from biomass
system, solar energy and wind power have a normal potential in the region. The two would promote
the local economy and provide sustainable jobs.
Problem the Haze, large areas of precious reinforced are burnt down from plant oil plantation and
cattle feet cultivation over Indonesia the smug of these fires cover large parts of Indonesia,
Singapore and Malaysia.

Solutions continue even though year 2003 a smug agreement in the ASEAN came into force where it
should reduce fires, environmental degradation and air pollution. As such problems cross borders;
ASEAN should tackle them in joint effort and think beyond boundaries. This can be done by taking
suggestions concluded by the Civil Society Organization or CSO aiming at placing a 4 th Pillar which is
the Environmental one in which it must ensure that ecological limits are taking into account in the
group debate only incase CSO gets much more involve acting free from state repression and social
environmental justice can arise. SERVE PEOPLE RATHER THAN PROFIT.
