Hydration:
Having the body at a good level of hydration is one of the most important factors in
maintaining both physical and mental health while also having a healthy immune system. There
are many adverse effects that can come from an individual being dehydrated. Some signs that an
individual is dehydrated can be there mouth is dry, sunken eyes, dark yellow pee, muscle cramps
and many more. When a nurse sees these signs they should act promptly to rehydrate the patient
so their body can begin to function normally again.

Keeping your patient properly hydrated can have many beneficial effects to the patient’s
body. One of the beneficial effects of staying properly hydrated is that it reduces high blood
pressure. When the body is fully hydrated your blood consist of 92% water and greatly eases and
relaxes the flow of blood through your arteries and veins. Some other beneficial effects from
staying hydrated are lowering cholesterol, stop allergies and asthma, and slowing the aging
process. Having your patient properly hydrated has a huge role/impact on nursing. When taking
care of a patient keeping them hydrated is one of the most important tasks to maintain in any
type of care or treatment. Failure to do so can lead to many other complications with the patient
and possibly cause even further damage for the reason their being treated. This shows that
hydration is one of the most important steps both inside and outside the hospital.

Sleep:
Sleep is also one of the biggest factors when it comes to maintaining both physical and
mental health. Not maintaining a healthy sleeping schedule can affect both your mind and body
in negative ways. The average amount of sleep that a healthy individual should have is between
seven to 9 hours of sleep. When a person does not get the minimum amount of sleep that their

body needs they can begin to develop both signs and symptoms of sleep deprivation. Some
symptoms of a sleep deprived individual are bags under the eyes, lack of motor skills, yawning
and a sensitive emotional state. There are many ways for a person to enhance their sleep so that
their body can function normally. Some of these ways include exercise, going to bed early, no
use of technology an hour before bed, and avoiding alcoholic drinks and nicotine before bed.

The beneficial factors for when an individual receives the proper amount of sleep have a
great impact on the person’s immune system and mental state. Some of these benefits include
increasing alertness, reduces stress, aids in body repair, and helps in losing weight. Sleep also
has a major role in nursing when it comes to patient care. A patient is much easier to work with
and more able, when they have gotten their full amount of sleep that their body needed to rest
and recover. This makes the patient more alert and willing to help aid in their recovery process
while also greatly reducing the time it will take for them to recover.

Vaping:
Vaping has become one of the biggest trends to take over the younger generation and has
created a negative effect on them. The image that vaping portrays has created a false sense that
vaping is no where near as bad as smoking a cigarette is. It has become very popular for both
college students and high schoolers to vape because it is considered cool. This has brought an
abundance of health risks that are almost if not literally the exact same health risks that come
from smoking a cigarette. Some of these risks include decreased ability to fight off infection,
pneumonia, damaged alveoli, cancerous tumor development and many more.

There are no health benefits to a patient that can come from vaping. While vaping has
absolutely no health benefits to patients or nurses it has taken over as a new factor and threat to
patients. While vaping is still a relatively new trend it has taken over the younger population
which has created many new health risks. This has impacted nursing in a way where nurses are

with a medical issue related to vaping.
