Introduction to Hydraulic Cylinder & Servomotor

A hydraulic cylinder is a mechanical actuator which is used to give unidirectional force through
unidirectional Stroke. It has many application , notably in manufacturing machineries, earth moving
equipments and civil engineering works. Hydraulic cylinders exhibit a sturdy welded/ bolted
constructions with honed and seamless cylinder barrels. It has precision hard chrome plated piston rod
that are deliver with prime coating as a standard Features.

Operating Pressure
Hydraulic Cylinder are subjected to static pressure test before delivery. The operating pressure
can be selected freely on the basis of operating condition and required level of safety with reference
to test pressure.
Port
The oil port are manufactured with standard metric thread.
Operating Instruction
Storage
In order to get a long shelf life of bearing surface and seals of hydraulic cylinder as well as to
protect them against rust formation, cylinder should be completely with oil. It is important to clarify that
no air is trapped in the cylinder and that connection are sealed air tight after couple of days of storage,
pressure may occur at the seals, but it vanishes after piston has been forward and reverse several times.
Installation

During installation of hydraulic cylinder following point should be noted.

1. The type designation must be compared with ordering data.
2. Make sure that hydraulic cylinder and its surrounding must be clean.
3. According to sealing material for cylinder, selection of operating fluid must be compatible.
4. Never use lint producing cloth or special paper for cleaning purpose.
5. Before installation of hydraulic cylinder, it should operated without radial or tangential stresses.

Special Instruction
HYDRAULIC CYLINDER

Prior to start work Ensure non pressurize condition

1. Check for clean working area as well as ensure cleanliness and dust free tools.
2. During assembly and dismantling ensure to use recommended genuine spare parts.
3. Highest precaution should be taken while installation of seals. Extra bending or stretching must be
avoided. The tools used for assembly of seals shall be proper.
4. In case of removal of seals due care should be taken, use proper tools so that the seals groves are not
damaged.
5. Carry out the Assembly and dismantling work only as per the instructions provided in manual based
on type and sizes of cylinders.

Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC)

The basic Scope of work under AMC will be to perform periodic /Shutdown/breakdown inspection /
supervising of Hydraulic Cylinders to Monitor the overall health and bring the Cylinders under proper
working conditions.
The Scope of work mainly includes the following:
1. Deployment of one Hydraulic Expert along with Special instruments at site for Supervision and
guidance to maintain healthiness of Hydraulic Cylinders.
2. Various types of inspection / supervision on Hydraulic Cylinder which includes Dismantling,
Cleaning inspection, rectifications, seals/parts replacement as per requirement. Suggestions and
preparation of reports for proper functioning and better performance of cylinders.
3. Inspection of surrounding atmosphere, quality of Oil and recommendation / corrective action for
monitoring of oil quality and surrounding cleanliness.
4. Recommendation for Spare parts availability.
5. Recommendation of corrective and preventive actions to maintain smooth operation of cylinders to
avoid any kind of unplanned breakdown.
6. Providing on job training for plant personnel including guidance and better practices while
dismantling and assembly of hydraulic cylinders.
7. To provide on job training for understanding of parts including seal profiles.
8. Visits will be either planned or on Emergency based on site requirement, for planned jobs minimum
notice period is 7 days whereas for breakdown it is 48 working hours.
9. Necessary safety precautions for deployed personnel will be due taken care as per customer
protocols.
10. The Execution of the jobs shall be carried out in consultation with Customer Engineer-in-charge.
11. Necessary suggestions will be given to keep availability of Consumables, Spares in advance if
required.
12. Customer had to provide required Manpower, normal tools / tackles, material handling Equipments
with operator if any required during the visit.
13. Customer had to provide air and water connection, Non-contaminated oil, electrical power as and
when required for carrying out the job.
14. Duration and type of visits, Calculations of visit Man days, travelling period, billing structure... etc
shall be decided on contract to contract basis.
