5.1 General Description

The scope of the method statement is to describe the installation of water transfer
pumps & water booster pumps.

5.2 Handling & Storage

On receipt of pump at site necessary precautions shall be taken for unloading, shifting and
storage, as follows:

1. Upon arrival at site, the pumps shall be off-loaded carefully at site using necessary
manpower and required equipment to ensure that no damage is caused.
2. The pumps shall be preferably shifted directly to the pump room immediately upon
arrival at site.
3. On the floor, pumps will be stored in a clean, dry place & adequate covering by
tarpaulin sheets will be done to protect the equipment from deposition of construction
dust till it is finally shifted to its foundation.
4. All received pumps will be checked to ensure that the pumps comply with the
approved material submittals in terms of their make, model, type, capacity, etc.,
5. Any discrepancy or damages etc., will be notified and reported for further action.
6. Material found not suitable for site use will be removed immediately from site & the
same will be replaced by correct item.

5.3 Installation of Pumps Procedure

1. Prior to start of installation it shall be ensured that the shop drawings including
coordination drawings of the respective area are approved.
2. It shall be ensured that the area is released by HEE to proceed with MEP
installations.
3. It shall be ensured that the pumps are as per the approved material submittal and
have been inspected & approved.
4. Ensure that the pump plinth is according to shop drawing approved.
5. After inspecting the work area / plinth and ensuring that it is totally ready for
installation, the required pumps shall be moved to the place of installation.
6. Proper marking shall be done on the plinth for drilling & fixing the required fasteners
to fix the pumps in position.

2
7. The pumps shall then be placed on the plinth & shall be fitted in position directly on
the plinth.
8. It shall be ensured that the fasters are tight enough to hold the pump in position during
operation.
9. After installation and approval of the pumps the piping system shall be connected to
the inlet & outlet of the pumps.
10. It shall be ensured that the piping is properly supported using hanger supports.

5.4 Testing and commissioning procedure for pumps

5.4.1 Pre-Commissioning Procedure for Pumps

1. Ensure that the pump installation is complete and mechanical completion is

approved.
2. Ensure that no damage occurs between mechanical completion & pre
commissioning.
3. Repair all damages to the equipment paint finish.
4. Ensure that the pumps are identified location wise and service wise.
5. Ensure that the system is cleaned internally & externally.
6. Check again the alignment of pump and driver shaft and comply with
manufacturer instructions.
7. Note the details of each motor such as make, model number, frame size, kW
rating and RPM.
8. Check that the piping network is complete with proper valves, drains, vents,
pressure switches & instruments in place.
9. Ensure that electrical power connections with control panel, pressure switch &
earthing is proper.
10. Ensure that the field wiring is pre-tested for continuity and insulation resistance.
11. Ensure that all the relevant valves are in open position.
12. Check the rotation of motor shaft by hand.
13. Check identification and labeling for equipment.

3
5.4.2 Pre-Commissioning Procedure for Pumps

1. Ensure that all the pre commissioning checks are carried out
successfully.
2. Open the suction valve & allow water to flow into the pump.
3. Start the pump and record the discharged pressure.
4. Observe leakage from stuffing boxes and adjust the flow for
lubrication of packing.
5. Check pumps for overheating physically by hand.
6. Check for any undue vibration/noise.
7. Check current, voltage & RPM of the motor & record the values.

6. HEALTH & SAFETY

1. Protective & Safety Equipment

2. All personnel will undergo Safety Induction. All personnel involve in construction activities
will wear the required PPE’s as defined by project site work rules.
 Hard Hats
 Safety Goggles
 Full body harness
