THE FALL OF THE VAULÉ CRAFTWORLD

BEFORE THE FALL OF THE ELDAR

The Vaulé Craftworld was a trading ship of artisans, before the cataclysm that consumed the Eldar race, it had some of the
finest artisans and weapons makers in the galaxy and their wares were sought after by many. For thousands of years the
Craftworld traded its wares with the rest of the Eldar, until the first signs of the degeneration of the Eldar race began to
show. By this time the Craftworld was led by Loran'el, one of the Eldar's most powerful Farseers, and she foresaw the cost
of the Eldar's increasing decadence, and the path the race was quickly going down.

Desperate to try and stop this, Loran'el visited each colony and Craftworld that Vaulé passed and tried to warn the Eldar
about what would happen but she was ignored and scorned as a trouble maker. At each colony and Craftworld Loran'el
gathered up those Eldar that would listen, and slowly Vaulé was a thriving colony in its own right. With the Eldar set on their
path to destruction, Loran'el took the Craftworld to the far reaches of the Eldar domain and cut off all contact, in the hopes of
riding out the turmoil to come. Long before any of the other Craftworld's left, and the Eye of Terror consumed Eldar space,
Vaulé had been almost forgotten.

AFTER THE FALL OF THE ELDAR

With the Eldar race in ruins, the few Craftworlds and colonies that survived were thrown into turmoil. The Fall was not kind
to Loran'el as she saw it as a major failing on her part that she could not have saved more of her race. This sense of failure
drove Loran'el to try and save all she could of what was left of her race, moving Vaulé from Craftworld to Craftworld, helping
where she could and giving advice on the future where possible. This atonement was not without cost though, as
predacious aliens were not long in taking advantage of the new-found weakness of the Eldar. Vaulé suffered many losses in
the ensuing battles, as it helped defend other Craftworlds and colonies from attack, and its once vaunted artisans were soon
forced to take up arms.

After so many battles, and so many loses, many of the Craftworlds ships and systems were retrofitted to allow Spiritstones
to control them, as even Vaulé's dead were called forth once again. Many of Vaulé's seers pleaded with Loran'el to let the
Craftworld recover, and to stop fighting battle after battle, but it was only after a vision of the future showed Loran'el that the
galaxy would hang in the balance if she did not take the Craftworld to the edge of the galaxy, that she finally relented.

For many years the Craftworld sat on the edge of the galaxy, much as it had during the Fall, and its inhabitants began to go
back to their artisanry and weapon smithing. Soon it was sending out supply ships to other Craftworlds to provide arms and
equipment, and its Seers passed on word of coming conflicts and catastrophes so they may be averted. Life on the
Craftworld took on a rare peaceful time, as it rarely encountered other races, even with the coming of the Imperium.

THE COMING OF THE TYRANIDS

During M41 of the Terran calendar, the Seers of Vaulé began having problems with their Farseeing, futures that seemed
assured slipped away suddenly, and it became harder and harder for even Loran'el to divine the future. Many Seers
described it as a shadow covering time itself, and this seemed to be increasing at the same rate as a strange shadow in the
warp, causing psychic powers to fail and the runes to only work for the most powerful of Vaulé's Seers. This problem was
not taken lightly and the few Rangers that Loran'el could contact were sent out in search of the cause, only for the few that
returned to return empty handed.

It was only when Hive Fleet Behemoth birthed into the galaxy that it became clear what the cause was, unfortunately this
was of little use to the Eldar of the Vaulé Craftworld, as the Hive Fleet emerged right on top of them.

THE BATTLE FOR VAULÉ

With a massive Hive Fleet appearing almost on top of the Craftworld, there was little the Eldar could do but run.
Unfortunately for them, the massive psychic bow-wave caused by the Hive Fleet reeked havoc on the Craftworld's systems,
and prevented it from entering the Webway. It became all too clear that this was a fight that was not likely to be won, but it
was a fight that would be fought none the less.

Loran'el and Autarch Malonthir, accompanied by squads of Striking Scorpion aspect warriors, quickly boarded the Void
Stalker March of the Dawn and gathered Vaulé's fleet. The fleet then headed straight into the jaws of the Hive Fleet to
hopefully buy the Craftworld enough time to get away from the interference, and flee into the Webway. It was surely a one-
way trip, but not a single Eldar flinched at the cost of saving the Craftworld.
The Eldar ships stuck hard and fast, taking advantage of what little element of surprise they had, and carved their way into
the Hive Fleet. Hundreds of Tyranid ships were destroyed in the opening minutes of the battle, but thousands more took
their place. Each Vaulé ship lost was a tragedy, and lose them they did, as the Hive Fleet reeled from the attack, and struck
back. There was little the ships could do to stem the flow of Tyranid ships, and as the losses quickly mounted, soon the
Craftworld itself was under attack.

In the closing stages of the battle, the March of the Dawn was badly damaged, and forced to take refuge in a nearby
asteroid belt in order to try and affect repairs. Unfortunately, they did not go unnoticed, and a number of Tyranid ships
followed them and managed to disgorge mycetic spores onto the Eldar ship.

A fierce hand-to-hand battle quickly ensued between the Tyranids and the Eldar crew, who were quickly joined by the
Striking Scorpions and the Autarch, but the Eldar were once again outnumbered dramatically and the defenders were forced
back towards the bridge, losing more Eldar with each corridor lost or bulkhead abandoned. Eventually, it was just the
Autarch and the Striking Scorpion Exarch Shadrolin left, defending the entrance to the bridge where Loran'el and the few
remaining crew worked to guide the ship, as the last pair of Bonesingers tried to repair the damage to the ship that had left
them adrift. As the Tyranid's last push came, Shadrolin threw herself into their midst and cut down the majority of them
before she herself was killed, and then it was down to the Autarch to finish off the rest.

As suddenly as it began, the battle was over, but only a handful of Eldar were left alive on the ship, and so it was down to
Spirit Seer Ylandar and the two Bonesingers to get the ship back into the fight, repairing the damage the Tyranid's had
caused, and transferring the majority of the ship's critical functions over to the Spiritstones implanted throughout the ship.

THE LOSS OF THE CRAFTWORLD

With the fleet in ruins, and Loran'el's ship damaged and adrift, there was little they could do as the Tyranid fleet moved in for
the kill. They watched, helpless, as the Craftworld was rocked by massive explosions, and whole sections of it were blown
off, Eldar and Tyranids alike spilling into the void. The main section of the Craftworld was quickly swarmed by Tyranid
vessels, and millions of Tyranid organisms were deployed to finish off the last of its inhabitants.

Even with every member of the Craftworld deployed for war, the last stand of Vaulé was a short one. Overwhelmed in
minutes, the psychic death screams of the Eldar aboard were almost too much for Loran'el to suffer. When the Infinity
Circuit was finally destroyed, the lose of the Craftworld's dead was too much to bear and something inside Loran'el broke.
Heedless of death, and drawing on more psychic power than she had ever done before, Loran'el cast a massive Eldritch
Storm out into space over the Hive Fleet, destroying thousands of ships, and almost killing Loran'el.

With the majority of the Craftworld consumed, the Hive Fleet moved on to new territories, drawn by whatever force or
beacon that had brought them into the galaxy, leaving a field of wreckage behind them.

PICKING UP THE PIECES

In the weeks that followed, recovering from her ordeal, Loran'el seemed to enter a fugue state, and would not respond to
any of the few remaining crew. It was in this state that Loran'el's farseeing abilities returned. The vision showed the course
of the Hive Fleet, and the outcome of the battle with the Imperium. She saw clearly that the losses inflicted by the Vaulé
Eldar were all that allowed the Imperium to triumph over the Hive Fleet, and had she not followed her previous vision, in
taking the Craftworld to the area of space that would eventually be its grave, then the Hive Fleet would have overrun the
Imperial defences and grown exponentially until all life in the galaxy had been consumed by it.

The failure to once again save her race was too much for Loran'el, and the little consolation that she had saved the galaxy
by sacrificing her Craftworld was not enough. Loran'el vowed to focus on nothing but the destruction of the Tyranids from
that day forth.

After coming out of her fugue state, and when the ship was finally repaired, Loran'el went looking for any survivors. Moving
from wreck to wreck, she found no living survivors, but found many dead ones, as ships almost totally destroyed still had
some Spiritstones on them that had not been lost. Of the Craftworld, there was little to recover, but they did manage to find a
cache of Wraithguard and Wraithlord bodies that had not been activated due to the suddenness of the assault, and were left
untouched by the Tyranids.

They also found the bodies of many Eldar that had been flushed out into space, either when a ship was destroyed, or when
the Craftworld broke apart. From these, they managed to recover a significant number of Spiritstones, although there was
little they could do for the mortal remains of their kin.

The loss of the Craftworld was not so easily recovered from though, as the few surviving members of the crew soon had to
make use of the Spiritstones to take over the majority of the ship's functions, and the remaining recovered Spiritstones were
merged with the ships Infinity Circuit. Loran'el became more withdrawn over the months that the repairs and recovery
operations took, and soon would speak with other crew only to give orders, preferring to remain in solitude. The only
member of the crew that she spend any time with was the Spirit Seer Ylandar, as Loran'el spend time re-learning the ways
of the Spirit Seer, as they would need all the help they could get from the Craftworld's dead if they were to get vengeance.

Autarch Malonthir took command of the ship, and after the search for survivors was finally given up he took the ship into the
Webway, heading for the nearest Craftworld, so that Vaulé's sacrifice would be know to all Eldar.

THE FUTURE
With the loss of their Craftworld, there seemed to be little the single ship and its few living crew could do, but Loran'el was
bent on revenge, and they once again went to the aid of the other Craftworlds, helping prevent them from suffering the same
tragedy that befell Vaulé. Aid is given freely to any Eldar who can call upon Loran'el's ship, especially those who are battling
the Tyranid Hive Fleets. Although many have offered Loran'el and her crew new homes, the offer has always been refused,
as they move on to the next battle as soon as the last is over with, and Loran'el and her Wraithguard charge into battle time
and again.

With the large but limited amount of Spiritstones that Loran'el managed to rescue from the ruins of her Craftworld, every loss
is heavily felt, and one day the last of the Vaulé will fall and the Craftworld will finally slip into obscurity. The only thing
staving off this disaster is the psychic link that has formed between Loran'el and the Spiritstones that she now works so
closely with, which means there is a chance Loran'el can draw a lost soul back from the warp if a Spiritstone is destroyed
and merge it with her psyche so the soul is not lost forever, although the long-term effects of this on Loran'el are unknown.

Autarch Malonthir often accompanies Loran'el into battle, lending aid where it is needed the most and shoring up defences
where it is needed. He has escaped death by the closest margins many a time, and knows that soon he will be joining the
Wraithguard himself, giving his last to fight the enemies of the lost Craftworld.

With no more Striking Scorpions left to assume the mantle of Exarch, and no shrine left to entomb the armour in, Shadrolin's
Spiritstones have instead been implanted into a specially modified Wraithblade, so that the combined spirits of the Exarch
may continue to fight for the lost Craftworld, and Shadrolin now leads a squad of Wraithblades into battle along side
Loran'el.

destroyed, Loran’el refuses to fight alongside anyone but the dead of her Craftworld, so as not to experience that kind of
loss ever again. Loran’el is treated as an Independent Character, but may only join units of Wraithguard/Wraithblade that
are in the same detachment as her.

Teleport: If Loran'el is part of the Army of the Dead formation, she also gains the Teleport ability. This ability allows her, and

or enemy units.

Warlord Trait: Taking Loran'el as your Warlord gives all models in the same detachment the Preferred Enemy Universal
Special Rule. This is not specific to any one race, and will count as having Preferred Enemy against everyone. The army
also receives the Remnant of a Remnant special rule.

Remnant of a Remnant: When a Wraithguard or Wraithblade, that is in a squad that has Loran'el attached, is killed
Loran'el may attempt to draw the lost soul of the destroyed Spiritstone back from the Warp. To do this, the
controlling player must pass a psychic test (no Warp Charge required), if this is successful the controlling player
may choose to either increase the range of Eldritch Storm by 6" or instantly generate 1 Warp Charge.

Army of the Dead Formation

It is rarer and rarer that Loran'el will choose to deploy the remnants of her lost Craftworld, as she knows that each battle will
have its cost, and more of Vaulé's dead will be lost forever. When the stakes are too high to do otherwise, Loran'el will arrive
unannounced and deploy her army of the dead, helping to sure up weakening positions or to give guidance where needed.
She will still only fight alongside the remnants of Vaulé though, and will likely be found leading a squad of Wraithguard into
the toughest fights.

FORMATION
 Loran'el
 1 - 4 Wraithguard or Wraithblade squads (in any combination)
 0 - 1 Wraithlord or Wraithseer

FORMATION RESTRICTIONS
Loran'el must be attached to one of the Wraithguard/Wraithblade squads.

deployed within 6" of each other. When rolling for Reserves and for Scatter during deployment, make a single roll for the
formation units as a whole, rather than a roll per squad.
