EMERGENCY TIPS
I. Read the following text and complete the task: (4.50p)
If you see someone in the water, you should always think before you jump in yourself. It’s often better to
get help by telephoning the police or ambulance first. Remember that you won’t be much in use to someone if you
get into trouble in the water yourself. In fact you can easily be pulled underwater by the person you are trying to
save. If you are ill and you try to get rid of a terrible cold, you should follow some simple tips. For instance, if
you’re sneezing a lot and you’re feverish, then you should drink a lot of liquids, especially tea, but pay attention: it
shouldn’t be too hot, because hot tea hurts your throat and vocal cords. Also, you should keep warm and you mustn’t
go out unless it’s really necessary. Also, the temperature in your room must be constant because shifts in
temperature aren’t good for your health. Furthermore, a very high temperature can cause the appearance of germs
and viruses.
If your flu doesn’t go away after a couple of days and you continue to feel drowsy and you have high
temperature, then you should get an appointment to your doctor. Be careful, if you’re feeling your neck stiff or if
you start coughing and vomiting, then you should get in touch with your doctor as soon as possible. Don’t forget:
Antibiotics aren’t good for your health. They destroy your immune system. Thus, don’t abuse them and don’t take
them without the doctor’s prescription or advice. Alternative medicine can be a solution. Different plants and herbs
are known for their curative purposes.
