1.0: OVERVIEW
The Starmux IV provides power to 2300, 4200, 4205, 2050-DSS, 2000-DSS, or 2000-TVD Towfish while
acting as a digital link between the towfish and a topside computer with EdgeTech's Discover application
installed on it. The Starmux IV features a modern digital current display, four status indicator lights, and
connectors for supporting survey devices and triggers. It can be bought independently, combined with an
EdgeTech Computer in a rugged 6U case, or as a component of an EdgeTech towfish system. The Starmux
IV has replaced the Starmux III digital link.
CAUTION! Never attempt to attach the Starmux IV to the 4125i Series Towfish
or any other model that it is not designed for. The voltages involved could
damage and destroy all equipment. Please contact EDGETECH CUSTOMER SERVICE
if you are unsure if your towfish is compatible with the Starmux IV.
This manual provides: Starmux IV physical and electrical specifications, mechanical drawings, control,
indicator light, and connection descriptions, setup, activation and maintenance instructions, and provides
troubleshooting tips. It should be used in combination with EdgeTech Discover Software and EdgeTech
Hardware Manuals to support your towfish system. Download links for the latest manual for this product
and others can be found in the SUPPORT RESOURCE CENTER WEBPAGE and under the Downloads Tab of each
product webpage on the EDGETECH WEBSITE.

Save the original packaging that the system came with, as these containers can and should be used when
the system is not used for extended periods of time.
The Starmux IV in any configuration should be physically located in an area that provides unimpeded
access and is within the physical and electrical limits of the network, device, and tow cabling and power
source it is attached to. Please avoid severe bends, particularly with the tow cable. The Starmux IV should
also be located in a place that allows users to communicate directly with the deck crew handling the
towfish.
If mounting a Starmux IV on a 19-inch rack, ensure that there is ample room behind the rack for connecting
the cables. Support the rack's components using appropriate mounting brackets and secure the front
panels using standard 19-inch rack front panel mounting hardware. A drawing with dimensions and
weights can be found in the MECHANICAL DRAWINGS section of this manual.

4.0: MAINTENANCE
The Starmux IV is rigidly built and therefore requires little maintenance. Occasionally cleaning the cooling
fan vents on the Starmux IV and computer by blowing the dust out with canned air may prevent
overheating after years of dust buildup and extend the unit's life. Beyond this, no maintenance is required.
