Dear Hiring Committee,

It is with great enthusiasm that I am contacting you to express my interest in any 3-5 general
education teaching position you have available. Upon graduating from Alma College, in April of
2018, I obtained a full-time elementary education resource room position at Chandler Woods
Charter Academy. During my time at Chandler Woods, I learned a great deal about leadership and
the importance of building a supportive community. It is my desire to take what I have learned and
apply it in a general education classroom. Therefore, I would like to pursue a teaching position,
teaching 3-5 at one of the schools within the Kent Intermediate School District.

Due to my calm demeanor and inherent need to help others, I decided to focus on Elementary and
Special Education at Alma College. Foundationally, I believe in establishing a caring classroom
environment that has a structure and a routine that supports student success. The experiences
teaching at Chandler Woods has provided have allowed me to develop and apply my
understanding of educational theory. Being a resource room teacher at Chandler Woods has
allowed me to develop a firm understanding of the content, allowed me to teach a variety of
learners, and taught me the importance of collaboration; most notably, this school year when our
paraeducators had to switch students due to student needs, I was in charge of letting them know. I
held a meeting at the start of the school year and explained the situation, I asked about their
concerns, and asked for their possible solutions, doing this set the tone for the rest of the ever-
changing school year. This school year was filled with collaboration, problem solving, and staff
members coming to me with questions and concerns, because they felt confident, I would work
through it alongside them. My experiences at Chandler Woods helped me to understand the
importance of collaboration and the direct positive impact it has on student learning. My
experiences and desire to collaborate and build a supportive community for staff and students have
provided me the knowledge and understanding to be successful as a general education teacher.

My background in education and career goals align with any elementary teaching positions you
have available. As an educator dedicated to both the development of student and faculty members,
I believe I will be able to make a positive impact within your school community. My willingness
to take on new challenges allows me to be flexible and creative in the way that I work with others.

Attached is a resume of my experience in relation to my coursework and experiences working with

adolescents. Please consider my request for a personal interview to further discuss my
