History

We have played a central role in establishing the standards and measures

for carbon emissions reductions that are in use by thousands of companies
and organisations today. We have also supported the development of
technologies and programmes that are leading the way in the global
response to climate change.

The following are some key milestones.

2001
The Carbon Trust founded

Set up as a company limited by guarantee by the UK government in order to accelerate

the UK’s move to a low carbon economy by helping business and the public sector cut
their carbon emissions and help drive low carbon innovation.

2004
Carbon management programmes

Developed dedicated carbon management programmes for companies and public sector
organisations – providing a framework to measure, manage and reduce emissions and
establishing the terminology for carbon reduction.

2007
The world’s rst carbon footprint label
