0 Critical review – Individual

The question the text tries to answer is relevant. It is hard to identify how we evaluate
the ability of a teacher in terms of the way they are teaching. Other than that, the text
also provides an interesting answer which touches about the comparisons of experts
from novices of teaching. It attracts our attention into wanting to know what the
comparison is about. The information the text provides is not new, but the way it
elaborates the text convey new information from the existing one. In addition, the text
provides a lot of points which is useful for a lot of people. In the text, there are a lot of
extra information and details about the differences between teaching experts and the
novices. It could be a great source for people that wants to know more about the
topic the text is discussing.

Based on the text, it is shown that the writer mentioned that the topic he is
discussing have been researched. It is proven by the citations regarding the topic the
writer is writing about. However, the information that the writer provides is giving a
whole new perspective which is different from the older written works. As an
example, the writer mentioned about the difficulty of measuring teachers’ ability in
teaching. Then, the writer continues to elaborate more on how it is possible to
evaluate teachers’ ability on teaching. This means the writing is good as it gives out
something new to the reader. By that, readers would be able to gain more knowledge
or strengthen their knowledge after reading this kind of text. The only reason why
people would want to read something is to learn something new or to see something
from another person’s perspective.

The text is actually very detailed to the point that it managed to explain nearly
everything regarding the topics. In the first part of the text, it provides relevant extra
information regarding the points the writer states. At first, the writer provides the main
points which is about the evaluation of teachers’ teaching ability. The writer then
provides an elaboration stating that if there is an evaluation made, most of the time, it
would turn out to be subjective. These types of elaboration in the text is more than
enough to provide more details for each point the writer pointed out. It provides
enough supports that any reader would be able to grasps what the writer states. In
this text, it is proved to be very effective as I myself is able to understand easily about
what the writer is trying to deliver.

Other than additional information as an elaboration, the writer also provides


evidences in order to support his points in the text. In other words, it elaborates more
on the points that the writer has done. In my opinion, the writer managed to give a
strong evidence as it also provides lots of cited information. As an example, in the
fourth paragraph, the writer cited many studies that have been made which is related
to the text’s points. The writer cited them in order to give readers more information to
help them understand what is being delivered in the text. Therefore, this proved that
the writer has done some studies before writing the text making the text to be reliable
as it is backed by scientific studies made by other people. By that, it shows that the
writer really knows what is being put in the text.

Finally, the writer did put a limited conclusion in the text as the text are related to
the other texts in the book. The texts in the books explains more about the points
stated in the text I choose. But the writer still stated a conclusion which gives an
overview about the importance of the main point of the text which is conveyed in the
text.
