Name: Kynn Lebrillo

Student number: 201908343
Lesson: The Embodiment of the Self
Required reading material: The article by Sandra Lee Bartky entitled "Foucault,
Femininity and the Modernization of Patriarchal Power"

Complete briefly and honestly each statement:

I used to think that the abuse of women before were not that cruel because of the
teachings in JHS and SHS.
Now I know that there is much more to discuss about how women empowerment and
feminism came to be. I think that there are many information in the article that is very
useful in spreading awareness on why is there a rampant advocacy of women
empowerment nowadays. I now also know more of the details on how women were
discriminated before and their struggles on overcoming these challenges.
However, I am not sure about how the article explained the relationship of the body and
the sense of self because I only read few lines about it. I may also have some ideas
extracted from the examples on how they are related but I am not sure if my ideas are
correct.
I hope the following topics or matters can be improved:
 The context of Foucault’s philosophy and how his concepts came to be.
 How the article explained the relationship between the body and sense of self
Overall, I feel empowered and honored because not all people have the opportunity to
read or introduced to this articles. I also want to learn more about this so that I can
increase my knowledge about femininity and its related topics which can help me in my
advocacy which is youth empowerment.
