UPPER LAKE

MANAV SANGRAHALAYA

Literally, the Museum of Mankind, it is situated in a
prehistoric site and may be the only museum in the
world strewn with prehistoric rock shelter paintings.
Curated by folk and tribal communities, it is a
museum of communities rather than objects. The
repertoire of the museum is rated to be amongst the
best in the world.
BHARAT BHAWAN

A cultural institute of national stature, Bharat Bhawan
is a centre for the performing and visual arts. The
centre houses a museum of the arts, an art gallery, a
workshop for fine arts, a repertory theatre, indoor
and outdoor auditoria, a rehearsal room and libraries
of Indian poetry classical and folk music.
VAN VIHAR

Van Vihar holds the distinction of being the only
National Park in the country to be located right in the
middle of a city. Most popular with visitors is the Van
Vihar Zoo where a wide raging variety of fauna can be
viewed in their near natural habitat. The park is best
explored on bicycle which can be hired from within the
park.

SANCHI

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sanchi is home to

TAJ-UL-MASAJID

Located in the heart of the Old City is theimposing Taj-
ul-Masjid, one of the largest mosques in Asia. Apart

architecture of its graceful archways, spiraling minarets

BHIMBETIKA

In the lap of lush green forest covers, at the southern
edge of the Vindhya Hills, there lies a shelter of close
to 500 pre-historic rock caves called the Bhimbetka
Rock Shelter. Discovered in 1957, these paintings
were mainly created by ancient man, as a means to
communicate with each other and have served as a
record of their lives for generations to come.

CYCLING AT VAN VIHAR
Start the day with an early morning cycle ride in Van
Vihar National Park. Different cycles of your choice
can be hired by paying a nominal amount of INR 20.
This exquisite National Park shelters a wide range of
species including pot deers, sambhars, alligators,
tigers, etc. which can be spotted while cycling your
way through the national park.

BOATING AT UPPER LAKE

Right where Van Vihar ends, Upper Lake begins. Upper
Lake or Bhojtal is the oldest manmade lake in India,
said to have been built by the Parmara Raja Bhoj during
his tenure as King of Malwa (1005–1055). Hop towards
the Boat club nearby to enjoy a beautiful morning boat
ride. You can choose from a variety of Paddle, row and
motor boats, star attraction being the local cruise.

HISTORY
Never will anyone ever see a museum of this sort. With a
nominal admission fee, the museum showcases life of
tribal people and many pieces have been made by tribals.
It is divided into parts on the basis of time periods and
covers all ages from Paleolithic to Neolithic. For any
tourist, this is a place which you can absolutely not miss.
Sit in the garden while sipping tea/coffee with snacks and
swans.

RELIVE NATIONALISM AT 

THE SHAURYA SMARAK
The war memorial is spread over 12 acres, and the park
is dotted with statues and galleries celebrating the
Indian war heroes. There are artworks, portraits,
badges, models of warships, aircrafts and submarines –
on display.

RISE HIGH TO MANUBHAN

TEKRI
The cable car will take you to the hilltop of Lal Ghati. The
hilltop offers you a complete panoramic view of the city
of lakes. The Jain temple on the top after climbing a few
flight of stairs boasts of stone carved architecture and
aesthetic view. Indulge in some local snacks and coffee
shops built on the hill top.
