TOURIST PLACES IN MANIPUR
Kangla Fort -
 It was the seat of Manipur's power till 1891, historical embodiment of
Manipuri Rulers and the people of Manipur, Kangla has a special place in the
hearts and minds of the people of Manipuri people.

The literal meaning of Kangla is Dry Land and it is a part of the Meitei
language. Since the time of
Pakhangba the fort is talked about in ‘Cheitharol Kummaba’.

It is 1.8 km away from Imphal.


Sadu Chiru Waterfall, Senapati -
 Also esteemed as the Leimaram Waterfall, Sadu Chiru is a tourist place of scenic beauty.
 Cascading from a height of nearly 300 metres, Sadu Chiru Waterfall makes an enthralling
sight for tourists to savour.
En route there are affluent crop field and small streams that add a unique charm in the
pathway. The valley from which the waterfalls surrounds is profusely green and extremely
alluring.
 It is 23.8 km away from Imphal
Zeilad Lake, Tamenglong -
Situated near the Zeliadjung (Atenba) village on a high platform up on the hill, the Zeilad
Lake is one out of many other famous lakes in Tamenglong which is a must visit tourist
attraction.
 The Zeilad Lake is a home to the pythons, fish, tortoises and water and migratory birds that
tourists can easily spot.
Zeilad Lake has recently been declared as one of the four wildlife sanctuaries of Manipur and
is also known as the Zeilad Wildlife Sanctuary.

Khongjom War Memorial, Thoubal -
Khongjom War Memorial is a historical attraction located on Kheba Hill on
Indo-Myanmar road.
Khongjom War Memorial is one of the popular tourist place in Thoubal
district that reminds the visitors about the war which held between the locals
of Manipur and the British Army in 1891.

The memorial is dedicated to Major General Paona Brajabashi who


martyred while serving for his motherland.
The Khongjom War Memorial is a popular sightseeing destination in the
region where tourists get to savour the sights of a 30-feet high entrance,
rolling hills and gorgeous valleys.

Tuibuong Tribal Museum, Churachandpur -
The museum takes you on a historical tour of the magnificent past of Manipur and its inhabitants.

 This popular museum in Churachandpur, through its rich exhibitions, gives you a glimpse into the
time of erstwhile Kingdom of Manipur to the days when the entire country was ruled by Britishers
and to the history of the post-independent era.
It boasts some rarest and the finest collections that were once a significant a part of the
traditional and ancient Manipur.

Buning Meadow, Tamenglong -
 The Buning Meadow which is also known as N- piulong Valley.

Bunning Meadow is a spectacle of a flora and fauna that are sure not to be found anywhere else

in Tamenglong.
The place is complemented by the multitudes of birds and animals including Hoolock, gibbons
and foxes.

People’s Museum, Thoubal -
The museum is one of the popular of its kind in Manipur, and thus, is visited by numerous

The People’s Museum houses a rich assortment of various artworks like basketry, pottery,

The fossils, hunting instruments and musical instruments are also put up on display in this
popular museum in Manipur.

Khangkhui Mangsor Cave, Ukhrul -
 The Khangkhui Cave, locally called as Khangkhui Mangsor, is essentially a natural
limestone cave.
Archaeologists have discovered many important artefacts, dating back to the Palaeolithic
culture from this cave.
The cave was used as a shelter by the local people during World War II.

Naga Heritage Village, Kohima -

Also known as Kisama Heritage Village and the only heritage village in
Nagaland.
The place is wrapped in breathtaking scenic views at the foothills of the
evergreen hills border lining this village.
 It is rich in tis traditional and cultural activities.
It is 10 km away from Kohima, Nagaland's capital.
Tourist Village, Tuophema -
It is a place modelled around the ethnic tourism model.
Visitors are offered modern and hygienic accommodations in traditional huts in an
ethnic setting, and can experience the local culture and cuisine.
It is 41 km away from Kohima.

Ntangki National Park, Peren -


The name "Ntangki" is derived from the Zeme dialect of the Zeliangrong tribe located
near it.
 It was established in 1993 as a national park and was a reserved forest before that.

golden langur, Asian palm civet and many more.

Caves at Puilwa Village, Peren -
The caves at the Puilwa village, 30 km away from Peren, are very important for the people of Nagaland, and they hold
this very close to their heart.
This is where the famous revolutionary Rani Gaidinliu went into hiding during her revolt against the British rule. Since
then, this place has become a sort of legend for the Naga people.
It is 138.8 km away from Kohima.

The Kachari Ruins -


These are the set of ruins located in Dimapur, Nagaland, Northeast India. Their history dates back to the 10th century when they
appeared during the Kachari civilization.
The Kachari Ruins is a series of mushroom domed pillars. They were created by the Kachari Kingdom, which ruled here before the
Ahom invasion into the territory during the 13th Century AD.
Their origin and purpose are largely mysterious. The pillars are not well maintained. Some pillars still stand in all their glory but
others have crumbled down. It is believed that a game similar to chess was played there with the mushroom domes. Present day: -
The ruins have long been neglected by the people and the government. It is a protected monument but not a single guard or police
personnel can be seen there.

Nagaland Zoological Park-
Rangapahar is one of the Model Zoological Parks in India.
 The Zoo has an exquisite collection of 40 species of birds and animals with a captive
population of over 300 individuals. The collection includes 22 species of wildlife listed
under Schedule I & II of Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 which signifies that the
collection has more endangered species. Besides, vast majority of them are native species
and are of regional representation of fauna of North-East India.

Phek is a district of Nagaland state, India-
 It was established in 1973. The district headquarters are in the town of Phek.
Phek district is a mountainous region, 70% evergreen forest. The highest mountain is
Zanibu, with the summit over 2,400 m (7,900 ft) above mean sea level (AMSL). The district
HQ town of Phek lies at the lowest altitude of the district at 1,524m above sea level, with the
town of Pfutsero at the highest point 2,136m above.

Shilloi Lake –

 It is located in Lütsam Village of Phokhungri area under the Meluri


sub-division in Phek district.
It is said that the baby is the reigning queen of the lake and that the
spirits of the lake are its protector. It is therefore believed that no one
can drown in the lake.
Shilloi Lake is a beautiful natural lake in Nagaland and falls in a
valley surrounded with pine forest and interesting landscapes.
