Air conditioning Unit (Split A/C)
• The artificial process of heating, cooling
and circulating air as well as controlling its
temperature and moisture content.
Humidity
Moisture content in the atmospheric air.

At 4o C, 1000 kg of air can accommodate

maximum 4.4 kg of water vapour.

At 38o C, 1000 kg of air can accommodate

maximum 18 kg of water vapour.
Humidity
Absolute humidity: weight of water vapour
contained in a given volume of air. (grams of
water vapour per cubic meter of air)
Specific humidity: ratio of weight of water
vapour to the total weight of air. (grams of
water vapour per kg of air)
Relative humidity: ratio of actual vapour
content of the air to the vapour content of air
at the same temperature when saturated.

Psychrometric Chart and Air-
Conditioning Processes
Dry bulb (DB) temperature:
We measure the temperature of the air with
a thermometer. Traditional thermometers
have a bulb that contains a liquid that
expands, and a tube indicating the
temperature on a scale. As the liquid
expands, it rises up the scale.
Psychrometric Chart and Air-
Conditioning Processes
Wet bulb (WB) temperature is measured by
having the bulb of the thermometer moist.
The moisture evaporates, lowering the
temperature recorded by the thermometer.
Less moisture in the air will result in a faster
rate of evaporation and therefore a colder
reading.

change in its DBT --- Humification
• The removal of moisture from the air,
without change in its DBT ---
Dehumification
