So to function well in the classroom and in the community, he/she must be equipped with competencies. This
competencies refer to knowledge, skills and attitudes that a teacher ought to posses for him/her to perform his/her task
satisfactorily. These competencies are captures and presented in the NCBTS.

What is NCBTS?

NCBTS stands for national competency-based teacher standard which is an integrated theoretical framework that
defines the different dimensions of effective teaching, where effective teaching means being able to help all types of
students learn the different learning goals in the curriculum.

( to simply put it NCBTS are the amalgamation or unified set t of rules, ideas, or beliefs which has been used to deal with
the problems onto how should a teacher will effectively teach his /her students in order to help the students to meet the
different learning goal. The teacher actually firsts finds out what types of students is she handling, and then next is also
for the students to know why they are learning)
NCBTS is a set of competencies( which includes the behavior, attitudes and skills) that a teacher must have to function
satisfactorily and effectively. NCBTS are actually based upon the core values of a Filipino teacher and on the principles of
effective teaching and learning.

Dignity means respect for humanity. Teachers must respect every person, regardless of gender, sexual
orientation, gender diversity, appearance, age, religion, social standing, origin, opinions, abilities and
achievements.

Truthfulness is one of the core values in teachers’ basic task, which involves steering learners in navigating life
and their environment. Honesty with oneself and others and mutual respect in all communication is a basic
aspect of teachers’ work.

Fairness is important both when encountering individual learners and groups but also in the work community.
Fairness involves in particular promoting equality and non-discrimination and avoiding favouritism.

Teachers are entitled to their own values, but in their work, teachers’ responsibility is tied to their basic task and
its standards such as legislation and the curriculum.

Let’s move on to………..

What is Competency-Based mean?

 the standards or criteria for characterizing good teaching are defined in terms of what the teacher is competent

Great teachers deserve great rewards, and nothing is more effective than praise and recognition in the form
of a national award. Many organizations and companies around the country offer such commendations
because they recognize the value of excellent educators, so these award-giving bodies must refer to NCBTS
in creating their criteria in giving award to outstanding teachers.

 The DepEd shall use this in formulating its hiring, promotion, supervision, and other policies related to the e
teaching profession. It shall also use the NCBTS to guide its INSET programs for teachers.

So, it is important to use the NCBTS to ha a better guide when it comes for their teaching, but not only to the teaching of
the teachers as well as to help their students.

NCBTS is divides into seven (7 domains) that represent the desires features of the teaching and learning process. This
domains incorporate a series of 21 strands of desires teaching performance statements which can be identified as eighty
(80) performance indicators that are observable indicators of the quality of a teacher’s performance.

SEVEN DOMAINS OF NCBTS.

Domain 1 and Domain 7 are referred to as teacher as learner

-as a teacher you must be role model to your students, because teacher serve off positive values and action. As a
professional, you must continue learning to improve your profession. Its because ,

Domain 2,3,4,5,6, are referred to as facilitator of learning

-because the teacher is the one who facilitate, the one’s one plans on how to improve how his/her students learn and
to know on what level of effectiveness his/her techniques in teaching.

So this middle domains are divided into 2 sub categories , the first is

Domain 3, 4, 5, represent the specific teacher practices related to the technical aspects of the teaching learning process.

-are the teaching strategies that relates on how will a teacher will handle or facilitate his/her students effectively.

Domain 2 & 6, represent the specific teacher practices that embed the learning process in appropriate context.

- An example to this are the activities that is actually held inside and outside of the school.

Domain !.
The domain of Social Regard for Learning focuses on the ideal that teachers serve as positive and powerful role
models of the values of the pursuit of learning and of the effort to learn, and that the teachers actions, statements,
and different types of social interactions with students exemplify this ideal.
..huwag magpakita nag negativities and do not be discouraged, and always make efforts in teaching so that your teacher
will be inspired to learn especially if you are teaching elementary pupils.
So how to be a good role model to the students? Answer is you must acts as appositive role model to your students.
So, to improve yourself as role model to your students, you must assess yourself , you should as yourself
“ Can my students appreciate and model the value of learning through my interaction with them? “ students always see
your actions and your statements that shows the importance of learning and exerting effort to learn,. It includes na on how
you implemt school policies and procedures, by inspiring them to be punctaual, the way on how you maintain your hysical
appearance, the way yoo dresss at school, and by showing respect to everyone in school or outside the school and also
respecting their ideas.
Domain 2:
• The domain of Learning Environment focuses on the importance of providing for a social and physical
environment within which all students, regardless of their individual differences in learning, can engage
the different learning activities and work
So in teaching , learning environment t is very important because it will help the teacher to teach effectively and
also for the students to learn, the room should only be composed of enough count of students, not too crowded
with students, the room must be away from ditractions, so that the students can clearly focus on the lesson that you
are teaching.
So to achieve this domain, we should assess ourselves by asking question to ourselves
1st strand .Do I create a social environment in my class where my students fee that they are treated fairly? So if
you think, you you have favoristism among your students in your clasrro, well you should change that. You must
remind yourself that all my students should always feel respected and appreciated in class and that they all have an
equal opportunity to learn and to achieve”.]
2nd strand. So, you should ask yourself again if do you create a physical environment in my class where my
students feel that they are safe and able to learn? So as a teacher, you should maintain a safe, clean an orderly
classroom free from distractions, you must show to the students that you care about them. It is your responsibility
as a teacher to find your classrrom safe and conducive for different learning activities.
3rd strand, ask yourself again if do you crate a classrrom atmosphere that encourages students to attain high levels
of learning and achievement? So you should always motivate and encourage your students to pursue their learning
gols and aspirations., by using s individual and cooperative learning activities to improve capacities of learners for
higher learning,, you should encourage learners to ask questions, to something that needs clarification, you should
also provides learners with a variety of learning experiences, you should also provides learners with a variety of
learning experiences and you should communicates and maintains a high standards of learning performance.
SO if you were able to do it and practicing it, you can finally say that all my students are always motivated and
given the chance to aspire and work for high level of learning in class.
4th strand. You should agin ask yourself if do you create a consistent and orderly social climate and organization in
the classroom for my students? So as teacher you should have a “maayos na samahan with your students” you
should also set a limitation as a teacher and as a students. So the teacher here handles behavior problems quickly
and with due respect to children’s rights, the teacher gives timely feedback to reinforce appropriate learner’s
behavior, and guides individual learners requiring development of appropriate social and learning behavior,
communicates and enforces school policies and procedures for appropriate learner behavior, Encourages free
expression of ideas from the students, Creates stress-free environment, and Arranges challenging activities given
the physical environment
Remember that students or pupils always see how you highly consistent on responding to their appropriate
behavior in class.
