My name is Karina, I live in Yucatán, Mexico. Right now, I am wearing
regular clothes like everyone else: a pair of jeans, a blouse with a nice
design and my favorite sandals because it is really hot, so, my family is also
wearing light clothes… but today I am really excited because my uncle told
us he is getting married! I love traditions and I really like the way we dress
when we are invited to important celebrations; during those important
occasions we don’t wear regular clothes. Men wear “Traje de Mestizo” in
which they wear a long white shirt and white pants, both well ironed, they
use leather sandals and they also need a hat made of straw. Women wear
“Traje de Mestiza”, a beautiful “Huipil” (kind of a dress) made of the finest
fabrics and beautifully hand-embroidered by expert artisans, we also wear
long shiny and luxurious necklaces to complement the ceremony outfit.

Today I want to tell you about the weather in New York. Here people dress in many different ways. In Spring,
for example, people wear jeans and light jackets because mornings are cold and afternoons are hot.

In the summer, people wear light clothes because the weather can be really hot and humid. People prefer
shorts, sandals, and t-shirts. You can see people in bathing suits in the fountains in the parks. During Fall,
people wear a combination of summer and winter clothes. People start wearing sweaters and jackets. I think
this is the best time of the year because it is not too cold.

Right now, I’m wearing heavy clothes because it is really cold. We are in winter and this time of the year,
people wear boots, hats, and coats. But there are people who wear summer clothes because they say it is
fashionable. I think they are crazy.
