‘The Final Word Game’ is even simpler. After students have closed
their book, read each sentence at a normal speed except for the
last word. The first student who can call it out is awarded a point (or
their team is).

For young classes (of up to 12 students), I often play with the entire
class together. We sit in a circle and take turns turning over the
cards. It helps build confidence when weaker readers can observe
stronger readers. For older or more confident classes, I usually split
them up into pairs or groups of 3 to 4.
If you are looking to play using the vocabulary only (that is, just the
pictures), I recommend using the official student cards from OUP.
The concentration cards in these worksheet packets use sets of
questions and answers only.

To play, students take turns calling out sets of two numbers. The
teacher reads the question or answer for each number just once. If
the student says a correct pair they are awarded points, and the
two numbers they said are crossed off the board.
I play this way because even when teams or individuals are losing,
the children know that there can be a sudden change in fortune
and so are generally less reluctant to give up.

Write the vocabulary words from Let’s Learn and Let’s Learn More
(as well as in, on, under) on the board. Each student’s card is
missing a different one of these words. On the count of three, all the
students turn their cards over and the first one to correctly say
what’s missing is the winner. In my classes I award 3 points to the first
student, 2 points to the second student, and one point to the third. I
then shuffle the cards, give a new one to each student, and begin
again, playing ten rounds in one session.

First, choose one of the three sets of time cards and print out four to
six copies (or alternatively, print out one to two copies of each set).
Cut out all of the cards and tape them to the white board at the
front of the class. After dividing the class into two teams, one
member from each team comes up to the front of the class, facing
away from the board. On the count of three, both students ask the
teacher, “What time is it?”
The teacher then says one of the times on the board, and the
children turn around to find it. The first one to find the correct time
gets a point for their team. Now circle the finished time with a
board marker and go again with the next two students. Continue
until all the time cards have been circled. The team with the most
points is the winner.
