FOREWORD
The Bronto Skylift Aerial Platforms are designed only to move persons, their personal tools and
equipment.
The Bronto Skylift Aerial Platforms are designed and built to meet even the highest requirements for
safe and effective operation.
The construction is based on over 30 years of experience of the company.
The quality system of Bronto Skylift Oy Ab is certified according to the Quality System
Standard ISO 9001 (EN 29001).
Bronto Skylift Aerial Platforms are mounted onto a normal truck chassis according to the instructions
given by the respective manufacturer. Due to this, the original warranty of the truck chassis is valid
and the maintenance does not become unnecessarily more difficult.
However, it must be understood that the operational safety, performance and efficiency of even the
best piece of machinery to a great extent depends on proper use, regular inspections and main-
tenance.
The Bronto Skylift Aerial Platforms should only be used by trained and authorized persons, who are
thoroughly familiar with all functions of the unit. The instructions given in this manual and during
practical training must be strictly obeyed.
Different national and local laws and safety regulations must be known and followed.
It must be remembered that safety in operation is always the responsibility of the operating person.
Any alterations of the construction, or mounting of any extra devices which could effect the operatio-
nal safety are strictly forbidden.
We are pleased to answer to any question concerning the operation or maintenance of the unit. We
kindly request you to consult your local dealer or the factory for advice:

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
DRIVING
Before starting road transportation, a brief check of the chassis according to the instructions given by
its manufacturer should be performed.
Verify that the Bronto Skylift unit is completely in its transport position, and that all separate tools etc.
are properly fastened.
The following special features, depending on the design of the unit, should be particularly born in
mind (some types may differ):
B044278X
• Correct position of the outriggers and the compartment doors must be verified
during driving and all loose equipment secured.
4
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Increased overhangs, particularly at the rear, must be born in mind. In narrow crossings the driver
must confirm that there is enough space for turning..
5
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Height of the centre of gravity. Never speeding with the vehicle when cornering is dangerous.
Travelling height. The driver must confirm that the vehicle can freely pass low underpasses.

CONTROL DEVICES IN DRIVER’S CABIN
B044278X
• This operation manual explains the functions and the right operation of the control devices
and emergency systems of the Bronto Skylift. Before using the unit, the operator must be
familiar with the warnings and safety instructions.
• The functions of the push buttons and warning lights are described on the next page.
• The main electric power must be switched on always when the unit is not in
transport position.
• Safety control of the unit demands the electric voltage. The alarm gives a warning
for approaching the maximum outreach and outriggers have too low ground
pressure.
• Control of the air spring suspension also demands the electric voltage.
CAUTION! Check also that the main electric power is switched off, and the warning lights of
the outriggers, booms, lockers and main electric power/"PTO" are not illuminated
before starting road transportation.

USING GROUNDPLATES
If the slope is so steep that the outrigger cylinder stroke is not long enough to level the unit, a
maximum of four (4) outrigger plywood groundplates can be fitted under one outrigger.
Note! When levelling the unit, make sure that the contact between ground,
groundplates and footplates is sufficient, and footplates will not slide on the
groundplates nor the groundplates slide on the ground. Ice, sand, stones,
dirt, mud etc. reduce the friction between ground and groundplate. The
operator is responsible for safe levelling of the unit.

If you push the third time the same button (blue background), it turns grey and
there is no memory position selection. The system still keeps the point in the
memory.
If you push ENTER + F4 (or F5), the system erases the memory point from the
memory. The symbol on the left appears. It is not possible to erase the memory
until JOYSTICK_RPM is loose.
If the both memory points are saved into the memory, it is possible to drive
between these points. Select first the point you want to reach first (for example
F4) and then the second point (F5). Background of the both symbols turns blue
and the arrow between the symbols shows the point where to go first. Also the
blue arrows on the right side of the screen show the way to the selected point.
When the first memory point is reached (all lock-symbols are locked) and you
release the JOYSTICK_RPM, the system selects the second point
automatically. You can cancel the operation by pushing one of the function
keys (F4 or F5).

MANUAL OPERATION
It is possible to operate the unit by using the manual override buttons.
These override buttons are meant to be used only for temporary operation of the unit during mainte-
nance. The hydraulic system must retain its normal pressure while using the hand control levers.
• NOTE! When the boom movements are controlled manually the electrical limit swit-
ches do not work. The operator is responsible in keeping the unit within a safe working
range!
• Use manual operation only during service or in case of failure in electrical system.
• Only a trained person who is familiar with the unit and manual operation may operate the
unit.
Steps to follow:
1. Let the engine run.
2. Engage the Power Take-Off (PTO) of the hydraulic system.
3. Press the RPM-pedal down to raise the hydraulic pressure.
4. Now you can use the manual control valves situated in the middle of the valve coil.
Note that:
• Boom movements can be controlled outwards and inwards.
• Use manual operation only to get the booms back to transport position in case of failure.
• Use extreme caution when operating with manual control valves or manual rotation! Do not
push or pull the valve with too much force as it may cause uncontrolled movements.

POWER MANAGEMENT (BATTERY VOLTAGE CONTROL)
There is a control of the battery voltage mounted in the working lights’ circuits. The circuits defined
by the user (11, 12, 21, 22, 31 and 32) turn off in case the voltage level of the battery goes below
the set value. The lights turn back on automatically (in case they were on) when the voltage level
exceeds the set level. This function aims to keep the voltage level of the battery high enough to start
the motor of the vehicle and yet to secure the adequate working lighting.
When starting the motor normally, the working lights stay on, even though the voltage temporarily
goes below the set value.
In the user pages 7-1-3 it is possible to set a separate barrier voltage for each working light circuit,
after which voltage the circuit involved turns off.
Numbering is as in the description above.
The typical lowest distance starting voltage of the vehicle’s motor is about 21V, but it can also be
lower, depending on the settings of the vehicle.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
WATER SYSTEM
Water is supplied through a 2½" quick couplings and shut-off valves located at the rear of the unit.
The water system is equipped with two drains, one at the rear of the unit and one at the working cage.
The working cage is equipped with a water monitor, 2½" outlet with a shut-off valve, and a protective
water curtain below the cage floor.
The water monitor is controlled with electric remote control (option) which is coupled to outlets loca-
ted at the working cage and the turntable control station. An extension cord can be used at the
turntable, allowing full remote control of water monitor operations from the ground. The water monitor
remote control has three control functions, horizontal and vertical movement of the monitor and
change the water jet from spray to straight stream.
Note! Make sure that when supplying water into the water line system by an external
pumping device, supply pressure is not allowed to exceed 16 bar.
Before supplying water to the system ensure that the monitor water valve is open,
then slowly open the supply shut-off valve of the supply inlet.
Always open and close water valves slowly.
Beware of pressure shocks.
After using the water system, open all drains and extend the booms to full height
to drain all water from the system. Leave all drains open when not using the water
system.
When there is water in the system ensure that the monitor valve or one of the
drains is open when you are moving the booms, especially if you are using the
telescopic sections, to avoid damaging pressure buildup in the piping.
Before stowing the booms, make sure that the water monitor is in its transport
position.
Under freezing conditions, do not extend the telescopic sections of the 1st boom
completely, this is to prevent compressing of possible ice build ups between the
telescopic sections.
Under freezing conditions, when using the water monitor and the protective water
curtain, make sure that water does not fall over the platform and freeze on it.
Observe also freezing on the working cage floor, possibly causing overload.

test load position 1. (See the test loading diagram in section 2)
Fasten the load, which is equivalent to the safe working load to the end of the rope and lift it about
20 cm from the ground by using the 1st boom.
Rotate the booms so that the load is on each outrigger in turn. Stop the engine at each outrigger, lift
the control lever of the outrigger concerned into the "up" position. Check that there is no movement
in the loaded jack cylinder.
The highest allowed drift of the cylinders is 3 mm/h after 30 minutes resting time.

BOOM CYLINDERS:
The checking of the tightness of the boom cylinder lock valves must be carried out by operating
from the control panel at the turntable.
For testing the lock valve of the telescope cylinder the booms must be driven to the test load
position 2 so that it is still possible to extend the telescope. Fasten the load to the rope. Extend the
telescope section so that the load hangs freely. Stop the engine. Check the height of the load. The
load is not allowed to lower.
To test the lock valves of the 1st and 2nd boom cylinders, the booms must be driven to the test load
position 1. Fasten the load to the rope. Raise the 1st boom about 20 cm. Stop the engine. Check the
height of the load. The load is not allowed to lower.
The highest allowed drift of the cylinders is 4 mm/h after 30 minutes resting time.
* Lubricate the unit according to the lubrication diagram. (Quarterly or every 50 hours,
whichever occurs first.)
1000 hours/yearly

manual control of the electric control valves.
8. Check the condition of the piston rods and external structures of the cylinders.
9. Check the free movements of the cylinder bearings and the condition of the fastenings,
and especially the condition of the welded seams.
10. Change the pressure, return and breather filters. Stop the vehicle engine and clean all
filters externally. Change all filter cartridges while observing cleanliness. Do not leave
the filter mounting open but install the new cartridge immediately.
Note! Dispose the used cartridges properly.
11. Drain the condensed water from the hydraulic oil tank by opening the tap below the
bottom of the tank. If there is any water, it always comes out first. Drain about half a litre
of fluid out of the tank.
Note! Do not let any oil spill to the ground.
12. Check the condition of the water pipe line and do the pressure test by using 16 bar
pressure.
13. Check the condition of the water curtain nozzles and valves.
14. Check the oil level of the rotation gearbox (see instructions on 250 hours service #27).
15. Check the tightness and adjustment margin of the chains; tighten the chains if needed.
In addition to the complete inspection of the unit, the following steps must also be done at
least once a year by the manufacturer or by an authorized representative of the manufacturer.
Pay special attention to the structural safety-at-work-factors.
1. Complete the test loading or test run and inspection of the unit.
2. Inspect the lock valves of the outrigger and boom cylinders for tightness.
3. Inspect and adjust the slide pieces, support and guide pulleys of the telescopic sections.
4. Inspect and adjust the extension chains of the telescopic booms.
5. Inspect and adjust the tooth clearance of the rotation gears.
6. Inspect and tighten the rotation ring screws.
7. Inspect the hydraulic valves and adjust the hydraulic pressures.
8. Inspect and adjust the limit switches and counterparts.
9. Test the hydraulic oil.
NEXT STEPS TO BE DONE EVERY 2000 HOURS OR EVERY FIFTH YEAR, OR ACCORDING TO
THE MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDATION:
1. Change the hydraulic oil and clean the tank and the suction strainer.
2. Change the rotation gearbox oil.

HG HYDRAULIC GENERATORS
GENERAL NOTES
DYNASET hydraulic generators are compact and integrated all-in-one units, especially designed for mobile
installation. The only power source is a hydraulic system to provide generator with required hydraulic fluid
flow at demanded pressure.
DYNASET hydraulic generator transforms hydraulic power into a high quality electricity, which is to be used
for energising electrical tools, appliances and other equipment.
CONSTRUCTION
DYNASET hydraulic generator is comprised of hydraulic motor and alternator. The power-to-weight ratio of
DYNASET hydraulic generator is excellent due to modern mono-bearing construction when the other end of
rotors shaft is supported by hydraulic motor. (Generators over 20 kVA are bi-bearing units).
Units rotor, connected to the hydraulic motors shaft, is provided with an excitation windings.
Electric power is taken from stator windings. Auxiliary winding of voltage control system is located in generators
stator as well. Windings are isolated from units body and their insulation class is H.
The unit has an automatic frequency control valve with ports for pressure and return lines.
Protection class of standard DYNASET hydraulic generators complies with specifications IP 23 or IP 34. Units
with protection class IP 54 are available by request.
Electric sockets are standard or special when requested. Automatic circuit breakers protect unit from overload.
DYNASET hydraulic generators are self-excited. The electric load can be connected prior to starting a generator.
DYNASET hydraulic generator is assembled in lightweight aluminium alloy molded case with footing for fixing.
3-PHASE GENERATORS:
3-phase generators are equipped either with compound or electronic voltage regulator.
Compound regulator is connected to the auxiliary winding and maintains the output voltage constant through
the entire load range with accuracy of ± 5%. Compound regulator sets the excitation current according to
electric load of each phase individually with its separate current windings. Each phase can be loaded up to
maximum current deliberately.
Electronic voltage regulator is connected to the stators windings and achieves an accuracy of ± 3%.
Electronic voltage regulator constantly compares output voltage to the pre-adjusted reference value and sets
the excitation current according to the load.
Performance speed of both compound and electronic voltage controls is less than 0,1 sec.

HG HYDRAULIC GENERATORS
CLASSIFICATION
DYNASET hydraulic generators are manufactured in conformity with the 98/37, 73/23, 89/336 CEE directives
and their amendments. They are also manufactured in compliance with the following regulations: CEI 2-3,
EN 60034-1, IEC 34-1, VDE 0530, BS4999-5000, CAN/CSA-C22.2, NF 51.100 and N°14-95 - N°100-95.
By request DYNASET hydraulic generators can be equipped with a radio interference protection to meet
requirements of specifications MIL STD 461 A/B and VDE 0875 class N.
INSTALLATION
DYNASET hydraulic generator works installed into an original hydraulic
system of any carrier machine and can be placed deliberately ensuring a
sufficient venting and an easy access to the unit. Position of a generator
should be horizontal. a a
Additionally, return line must be connected to a hydraulic oil tank directly
in the shortest possible way in order to keep return oil pressure under
5 bar. Generally DYNASETs T-line is to be connected directly to the return
line of a hydraulic system, when hydraulic fluid flows to the tank only
through the return filter and cooler. Both filtering degree and cooling
capacity of a hydraulic system should be sufficient (ref. to PARAMETERS). a > 150 mm

MINIMUM
P
T To put DYNASET generator into operation only pressure- (P) and return (T) lines of a
hydraulic system are to be connected to the units hydraulic ports.
Ensure that the oil flow is sufficient to run the unit, i.e. at least the minimal flow must
be available.
At the oil flow less than demanded nominal rate the unit will not work properly at all.
If the oil flow is so excessive, that the automatic speed control valve is unable to handle
it, the unit starts hunting. In the latter case the oil flow is to be reduced either by
dropping down the rotation speed of hydraulic pump or using flow limiter valve. DYNASET
priority valve is recommended.
After having been connected to the hydraulic system, DYNASET hydraulic generator is to be started by directing
the oil flow to the units pressure port by means of control valve - manual or solenoid. Even simple ball valve
or three-way valve can be used.
To ensure DYNASETs proper operation, the hydraulic pressure must be set to the level, at which at least the
nominal power output is achieved (ref. to PARAMETERS). Lower pressure reduces output power. Maximum
hydraulic pressure is 210 bar (ref. to PARAMETERS). If the hydraulic system main pressure is higher, service
pressure relief valve must be used.
Ensure also that your machine oil cooling is working properly when DYNASET is in operation.
DYNASET hydraulic generators are designed for easy integration into hydraulic system of any type.

HG HYDRAULIC GENERATORS
... INSTALLATION
DYNASET hydraulic generator is tested and adjusted at factory but it is recommended to check the output
frequency prior to taking the unit into operation.
1
Ensure that the generator is properly connected to the hydraulic system of your carrier machine and there
are no oil leakages in system.
2
Start the engine of your carrier machine. Adjust the engine speed to the demanded level if necessary.
3
Start the generator with a control valve.
4
Check output frequency and tune it if necessary. For this purpose universal multimeter can be used. When
the generator is running without load, switch the metering device to the Hz-position and check the frequency
from each socket.
5
If the frequency is out of allowed range:
1 5.1
ensure whether the hydraulic fluid flow is on the demanded level.
5.2
set the frequency by adjusting the RPM-cartridge:
2 Loosen the checknut (1), make an adjustment (2) with adjusting screw
according to the readings of frequency meter and then lock the checknut.
Usually installation to the hydraulic system is being made with traditional pressure compensated flow control
valve.
Regardless of hydraulic systemwhether is of open or closed centre type - the setting should be made
in following way to ensure proper installation of your generator:
1.
Start your machine and switch on the DYNASET generator.
2.
Release the checknut 1 and turn the adjusting screw 2 clockwise for a couple of revolutions.
3.
Adjust the hydraulic fluid flow with pressure compensated flow control valve until the output frequency will
achieve the value of 5152 (6162 Hz). Follow the readings of multimeter.
4.
Finalise the setting: turn the adjusting screw 2 counter-clockwise until it will take the flow under control
youll feel it !
Then turn the screw back for a quarter of revolution and lock the setting with checknut 1.

ISO VG 68S for oils operation temperature up to 90 °C.
Synthetic and bio-oils can be used as well if their viscosity characteristics and lubricating efficiency are
corresponding to above mineral oils. Automatic transmission fluids and even engine oils can be used, provided
that they are allowed to be used in hydraulic system of your carrier machine.
To use special hydraulic fluids a with DYNASET equipment, please be kindly requested to contact nearest
DYNASET representative for an advice.
SAFETY
The generators output voltage is as high as 220 V. Operators and maintenance personnel must always comply
with local safety regulations and precautions in order to close out the possibility of damages and accidents.
The hydraulic system is usually pressurised up to 210 (420) bar. Follow all your local safety instructions related
to the high pressure hydraulics.
TECHNICAL CONDITION OF YOUR MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT MUST BE SUBJECTED TO CONSTANT SURVEILLANCE.
Hydraulic system of a carrier machine should be maintained according to the service program. All couplings,
valves and hoses of the system should be leak-proof and kept clean in order to follow their technical condition.
Hydraulic leakages must be rectified immediately to avoid injuries caused by hot oil blowouts.
Prior to maintenance, detaching from a carrier or disassembling a DYNASET-unit, the hydraulic system of a
machine should be stopped and DYNASETs hydraulic circuit depressurised.
When using DYNASET hydraulic generator, appropriate protective clothing, safety goggles and gloves should be
worn. Do not touch parts heated by hydraulic oil.
