KINS 4306 Internship Spring 2021

2/14/21

Weekly Journal #4

Throughout this week at the LEC, we were able to get our schedules going a little better

and providing more activities and programs for the people at the building and on zoom. On

Monday, The other intern and I went with the guys to Walter B. Williams and went into their

gym and did some exercise such as walking laps and playing basketball. After that we came back

and ate some lunch with them and prepared for brain games. Brain games consisted of wheel of

fortune, 10 strikes, matching, and other games throughout the week. On Tuesday, we went with

the guys the Lockerly to garden some plants and see the progress we have made on the plants

that we already planted weeks ago. Its always great seeing the guys enjoy gardening and learning

more out the environment and outdoor life. After Lockerly we went back and ate lunch together

and got ready for drumming activity that the other intern and I host on Tuesdays. We did the

drumming with the girls and people on zoom that day and It consisted of repeating after me,

going with a song, and them making their own beats. After drumming we ate lunch and did brain

games again. On Wednesday, we did morning workouts with the guys and I definitely see

improvement in their mobility. We recorded their weights and strive to get them to lose some

weight and be more active. After the workouts, the guys went to another trip and I stayed at the

LEC and did activities with the girls such as sign language and arts and crafts. I then ate lunch

with the girls and got ready for brain games. We did some matching and they always enjoy that

one. After brain games we were getting prepared for the next day and began brainstorming ideas

for Thursday. For Thursday, we did our normal morning workouts and then I joined the girls in
some spiritual matters, which is going through some bible verses and listening to prayer request

from the girls. After spiritual matters I ate lunch with the guys and got prepared for brain games.

We did wheel of fortune and that one is definitely my favorite on to do. I love brain games and

I’m glad I’m able to do it every day. On Friday it was a special day. Since its valentines day

today we celebrated on Friday dressing up and making valentines day cards for everyone. We

had the people online and I did an art activity with them till we were ready for the flowers. Since

the people online couldn’t get flowers and dance from the LEC, we made sure that they received

their flowers from home and got involved in dancing with the people using zoom and ipads. We

then gave the girls and guys a flower of their choice and they got their individual photos at the

photobooth that Mrs. Paige was great enough to do. After the photos, we then began playing

some fun dance music and saw everyone dancing and having so much fun. I was in charge of

taking photos and videoing them having fun and dancing. I loved seeing them smile and have fun

and not focus on COVID or any negativity. COVID has been tough on them so we strive to

continue making them happy and see the better things in life throughout this pandemic. I love

being here at the LEC and I’m excited to continue my internship there throughout the semester.
