1.

The sub-problem that you will investigate further, and why you chose this
over the other sub-problem.
The sub-problem that I will investigate further is, not enough fish are being
added to the ocean each year because I feel like it is the bigger problem than
fishing illegally
2. At least two realistic criteria for the chosen sub-problem and an explanation
as to why these criteria should be met for the sub-problem to be considered
resolved.
One criteria is to have more regulations on the size of the fish that can be
harvested. The bigger the fish, the older it is. The older that the fish is, the more
eggs it will produce, so if we keep those fish around, there is the possibility for
more fish to be born.
Another criteria is to start putting organic material into the ocean. Not pollutants,
but with products from plant and animal origins. This will help feed the fish, so as
many often won’t die of starvation as they are right now. Higher population=more
baby fish.
3. At least two constraints for the chosen sub-problem that have been known to
limit solutions to the sub-problem and an explanation of why these
constraints exist.
People make a living out of fishing. This is a problem when they get paid by
the pound, so they aim to get the biggest fish they can. If they aren’t allowed to
keep the big fish, they could encounter money issues.
There isn’t an easy way to get the organic material out of the ocean. There aren’t
the resources right now to bring the organic material out farther into the ocean.
Large boats and material spreaders would be needed to at least start.
4. Prioritization of the criteria and constraints and an explanation supporting the
decisions made based on research. There should be only one priority list that
ranks the criteria and constraints together
● There isn’t an easy way to get the organic material out into the ocean
● To start putting organic material into the ocean
● More regulations on the size of the fish that can be harvested
● People make a living out of fishing
I chose these because if there are ways to get the organic material into the ocean, it will prompt
the second criteria. The third criteria is the regulations because it will be more difficult to pass,
but might be able to happen eventually. The fourth criteria had to do with people’s lives being
affected because some people’s jobs are affected by regulations every day.
