On Time and Ready to TikTok (Grade 9)

Undesirable Behavior Targeted:

Being late to roll call. This behavior interferes with learning because it is distracting, slows the entire class down,
and reduces the amount of time we can spend dancing.
Expected Behavior:
We Follow REAGAN TIME! Before practice starts, I will:
1. Dress Out 2. Grab All Needed Materials 3. Find My Spot 4. Sit Quietly
Positive Reinforcements
1. Immediate R+ is receiving a colored ribbon when displaying the correct Reagan Time behavior.
2. Ongoing R+ is the collection of the ribbons, which are tied to a TikTok logo displayed in the dance studio.
3. NAME of Fun-Interactive-Learning-Activity (overall R+) TikTok Prom
4. Easy Administration of R+ is that the ribbon will be tied around the dancer’s wrist.

Interactive Learning Activity

The TikTok Prom will be a class period dedicated to TikTok dances. Pep Squad dancers will group together into three
groups, each creating a dance. After that, each group will then teach the other groups their dance. At the end of class, the
dancers can film themselves performing their new TikTok dances with the completed TikTok sign in the background.

1) TEK 116.56 Team Sports. Display appropriate etiquette while participating in a sport. Students will
exhibit this TEK by working collaboratively to create TikTok choreography, and being attentive while
learning choreography from other groups.
2) TEK 117.317 Theatre. Integrate two or more art or media forms in a performance. The dancers will
fulfill this by performing/recording the dances they learned from each group.
3) TEK 117.306 Dance. Identify knowledge and skills of technology in dance. Not only will the dancers be
using social media to record and potentially post their dances, but they also are exploring filming methods
and camera angles as they record.

Lesson Overview to Teach Expected Behavior:

Play a popular TikTok video at the start of class to get their attention.
Guided question: what elements are important when filming TikTok videos (i.e. not being distracted, having the right
outfit, having props, being ready to start recording). Just like when filming a TikTok video, we also need those things to
have a successful class.
Introduce the ABC Plan.
Directed practice: review what each term means. Then practice coming into the dance studio and sitting down in assigned
spots quietly. Then we will pretend it is Monday (so students should grab a pen and calendar, then sit down quietly), etc.
Overview to Explain the Purpose and Power of the Plan:
This plan is designed to encourage and entice Pep Squad dancers to come to class prepared for a successful day.
Under this plan, dancers will be rewarded immediately for displaying the listed behaviors. Students who are on time will
receive a ribbon to tie around their wrist. At the end of each class, the ribbons are collected and tied along the outside of
the foam TikTok Logo. Once the TikTok logo is full of ribbons, the following class day will be a TikTok-themed dance
day (aka a TikTok Prom). This plan works because it ultimately rewards the entire class for the good behavior of each
dancer, which encourages all dancers to follow Reagan Time so they can earn the TikTok Prom faster. The duration of the
exercise also allows for enough time for this practice to become a habit. Furthermore, Reagan Time is the standard for the
Dance Teams, so it is also of benefit for any Pep Squad dancer who hopes to make the team to get into these habits now.
