Reflection for Classroom Forms

This artifact was selected because it demonstrates the various ways in which I can make

my future classroom all inclusive including culturally and linguistically as well as involving

parents and the community.

It also falls under InTASC standard number two: learning differences. The main key to

this standard is bringing multiple perspectives to the table through “learners’ personal, family,

and community experiences and cultural norms.” By making my forms incorporate culture in

various ways, members of the classroom and community alike will not only learn more about

others but also feel like their culture matters when it is their turn to showcase it. Another part of

my plan with the forms is to offer it in different languages if need be which incorporates making

content accessible to English Language Learners. The forms overall demonstrate that I know

how to access information about the values of diverse cultures and communities and how to

incorporate learners’ experiences, cultures, and community resources into instruction.

From creating these forms, I learned that so much needs to be considered when designing

an all inclusive classroom. I had always had a vision in mind but when putting pen to paper, I

didn’t consider half the things that ended up going into it, especially for students and parents. As

much as I see teachers as more of guides rather than direct instructors, students do need that part

of the time. By providing them with a calendar of events, they are able to know what is coming

and be on a schedule. By allowing students to take home certain forms to their parents after they

are explained, they know what is expected of them and what their parents will see and know

when the time comes for contact. The newsletter allows for students and parents alike to feel that

there is more than just a classroom they have to enter but a warm, caring community. It taught

me that things are needed or a classroom won’t run smoothly.

Reflection for Classroom Forms

This artifact definitely changed the way I see the classroom community. I knew it was

important to form a welcoming classroom, but this helped me see that a welcoming classroom

stretched farther than just the class itself. It encompasses the homelife too including students and

parents, out of school activities, and much more. By not just including this but even organizing

them yourself, the classroom can truly become a community. I know to make sure to incorporate

this in the future.

This artifact demonstrates who I am as a teacher because it shows how I want to

incorporate diversity not just into the basic classroom, but form a community around it.
