Welcome! Bienvenido!

Hello,
I want to give a warm welcome to you and your student into my classroom. My name is Ms.
Prunty and this is my first time teaching. Despite not having many official years under my belt, I
do have much experience working with children and young adults through various volunteer
programs and after school activities. I graduated with a degree in Secondary Education with a
concentration in English literature from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I chose teaching as
my career because I not only love working with children, but I love literature as well and have a
strong passion for it. I truly believe that a good book and an open mind can be a gateway for
students to discover themselves and all new worlds. Aside from teaching, I volunteer at the L.A.
children’s hospital once a month and on holidays and I spend my summers in Central and South
America doing different trails and climbs.
I like to have a very alternative classroom. I’m a strong believer that every student learns
differently and has their own way of processing information. Because of this, I like to encourage
flexible seating. This includes various types of learning stations throughout the classroom
including traditional desks, high top seating, standing tables, couch seating, floor seating, or yoga
balls to encourage their most successful environment. There will also be different mediums to
access my lessons through including traditional paper, online, or videos that you and your
student can access at home. This year, the goal for your student is to be able to leave my
classroom at the end of the year with a better understanding of writing and reading. To do this,
we will read various books and engage in different writing exercises, analysis, and discussion
topics. The expectation is for your student to not only read a literature but tell me and their
fellow classmates what they think that literature means.
Students and Parents are free to reach out to me at any time through email. You can also send me
a message at any time through our classroom portal. For phone calls, please call on weekdays no
later than 8 p.m. I am here for your student and their success and want to keep you active in the
classroom and informed on their progress; because if this, I like to hold once a month after
school classroom potlucks. This is your opportunity to not only come into your student’s
classroom and see their work, but also to engage with me and other parents, voice any concerns,
or organize activities that you and other parents might want to hold. You are welcome to
schedule a one-on-one parent meeting at any time. I will also be updating our classroom portal
daily for grades, lessons, or anything big happening in the classroom.

If you have any other questions, feels free to reach out. This is going to be an exciting year!
Thank you,
Ms. Prunty
