Prospectus for Mass Transfer Operations (Paper-1)

In chemical engineering practice, several unit operations like momentum

transfer, heat transfer, transport phenomenon and mass transfer operations
are involved. This course is aimed at teaching the use of mass transfer
principles in design of various mass transfer operations. In particular as an
introductory course the principles of diffusion and estimation of various mass
transfer coefficients are given special attention. Then how to apply these mass
transfer principles in designing and evaluating various mass transfer
processes are thought. The various operations in which mass transfer occurs
are distillation, leaching, extraction, absorption, humidification, drying,
adsorption and membrane separation. Out of these processes only distillation,
leaching and extraction are paid special emphasis in this course. These mass
transfer operation finds many applications in many industries such as
pharmaceutical, petroleum, petrochemical, plastics, leather processing, and
food processing.

This is a mandatory course for final year students of B.Sc. Chemical

Technology.
